JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The New Year will usher in big changes around Duval County's Veterans Memorial Wall.

On Monday, veterans of the city's Semper Fidelis Society and the Military Order of Purple Heart cleaned the wall that bears the names of local men and women who died in combat.

Next month the city will begin construction on the Veteran's Memorial Park. It is projected to cost $1.2 million. Besides landscaping, the park will have permanent seating for nearly a thousand people.

Pete Dowling who is a member of the Semper Fidelis Society says, "I don't think too many people realize how beautiful it will be."

The plan is to have the park finished by Memorial Day.

This is positive exposure for all Marines. Proud (and humbled) to be a part of it... There are five Medal of Honor recipients on the wall, two are Marines from Vietnam (more on them later)- TracGunny
