CAMP LEJEUNE

About 1,000 Marines and sailors, most from New England, are returning home after nearly a year on active duty that included a six-month deployment to Okinawa.

The 1st Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment includes Headquarters and Service Company and Weapons Company from Ayer, Mass.; Alpha Company from Topsham, Maine; Bravo Company from Londonderry, N.H.; Charlie Company from Plainville, Conn.; and a TOW missile section of Weapons Company from Broken Arrow, Okla.

They were mobilized in December 2002, came to Camp Lejeune in January and filled in on exercises, security and as a quick-reaction force prepared to fly to hot spots around the world.

In June 2003, they made history as the first East Coast Marine reserve battalion to participate in the unit deployment program to the Far East, returning to Camp Lejeune last weekend.
