I have about a year left until my contract is up and I'm trying to figure out how hard it would be to switch to a new mos at the time of my reenlistment. I am currently a 1812 (tanker) I am trying to switch to 1341 (engineer equipment mechanic)

Go see your Career Planner. Normally, the MOS you want to make a lateral move to needs to be undermanned (this is one method the USMC uses to balance MOS staffing). If 1341 is fully staffed or over-staffed your request will most likely be denied. Of course, you must have the GT score and otherwise be eligible. If your GT score is too low, study for the ASVAB and when you think you're ready, schedule to retake it.

Thank you MSgt. I checked my GT score is already high enough. How can I find out if the MOS is undermanned? Would my Career Planner know?

Your Career Planner will have all of the information you need.

What matters is where it's at when your Career Planner submits your reenlistment package. It's not too early to start talking to them now. Let us know what they say.
