I am looking for general information on 0651's and the job we perform. I go back to MCT the 22nd and then head straight to 29 Palms for MOS school.

1st, how long is the school and at what rate do they add in new material?

2nd, will already having certifications in Networking+ and A+ Repair put me ahead of my peers?

3rd, how quickly do you pick up in this field, I've been told it's either super quick or slow.

4th and final, where can you get stationed and how is the job?

My recruiter is on leave and the other recruiters don't know jack about this MOS since im the first at my RSS to ever get it.

1. School is 3 months. Keep in mind you may have to wait weeks before picking up a class. Most of the materials taught are pretty up to date. However, new equipment always comes out so as a Marine, you'll be doing on the job training and training with contractors.

2. It'll help.

3. Depends, do your PMEs, do good on the PFT/CFT and rifle score and you'll be fine. Know your MOS and hold a leadership billet if you can. You'll pick up quicker than most infantry guys.

You have to understand the promotion is a numbers game too. If there are too many Sgts in an MOS, then the cutting score for that period will be either really high or close (no promotions).

4. Anywhere there is a need for communications so pretty much any unit at company level and above.

I really have no advice to offer to this thread or answers to your questions DataMarine, I just thought I would throw this in here for a little motivation for you...

There was a Cpl. at the PB I was at in Afghanistan who was 0651, he earned himself a Bronze Star and Combat Action Ribbon after the PB got ambushed. Long story short he grabbed his rifle when the guard post started taking contact, after one of the Marines in the post took a round to the shoulder this Cpl. jumped up, pulled him out and to safety, called for the Corpsman, and then proceeded to take over behind the 240 and held off the attack.
