Hello,

my name is PFC Aaron Lavoie and i could really use some insight on a situation.

I shipped to boot camp in December of 2012 with a HZ Reconnaissance man contract. I graduated in March and left for SOI ITB West the same month. I graduated SOI ITB in May and received orders to report to Reconnaissance Training Battalion to start my training in MART (Marines Awaiting Reconnaissance Training). it was at this point that i realized my swimming skill where not were they needed to be in the pool and dropped from the course. At this point in my career i had heard that if you drop you get reclassed to a new MOS and no longer stay a 0311. this rumor was true and i got reclassed to 0651 Data Network Specialist. now im in 29 palms awaiting training for my new MOS

well now that you know the situation I have a few questions that if anyone could shed some light on i would greatly appreciate

1. when can i put in for a lat move
2. do first term lat moves usually get approved
3. does already owning the MOS your trying to lat move to help the approval process
4. and if i cant lat move what are the chances i will see combat if i deploy as an 0651

any insight would be greatly appriciated. thank you all Semper Fi

chances of you lat moving from an undermanned MOS like that to a WAY overmanned MOS is gonna be slim to none.

I really can't answer any of the questions about the details but I will say the chances of you "seeing combat" are also slim, chances of getting on a combat deployment are getting smaller by the day. Even infantry units going in country hardly see any "combat" anymore.
