Hello all,

Probably a dumb question but here it goes..

For promotion zones, it says: MARINES WHO HAVE A DOR THAT IS EARLIER THAN THE DOR IDENTIFIED FOR A ZONE ARE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION IN THAT ZONE FOR THAT IMOS

So say the in-zone dor for an imos is 20110301

And the dor for the above zone is 20100701

If MY dor is 20100701
I would be in-zone right? Even though my dor is the listed dor for the above zone?

Last year the dor for in-zone was 20100701 (my dor)
So I thought that last year I was below zone

Am I right in this? I feel like im way overthinking it

Yup

Not a dumb question, if no one ever explains the zones then they can be tricky to read. For your case, you are in the above zone and you were passed over last year.
I'm assuming you are talking about the current SSgt selection board. There are two MOS' that meet your description. Neither of them has an AFADBD requirement for the above zone so this means you were passed over last year.

Example below for MOS 2874:

The way to tell who is in zone is to look at the promotion zone junior date of rank 20110301 then the AFADBD of 20060103. Now go to Marine Online under the personal information tab then select rank/MOS. Select Sergeant 2874 and find the Sergeant with the DOR of 20110301 and an AFADBD of 20060103. Him and everyone above him up to the first Marine with a DOR of 20100701 are in zone. All above the junior Marine with 20100701 are in the above zone. If the AFADBD is NA then all Marines with that DOR are considered for that respective zone. Any further questions PM me or ask a SNCO, they should be happy to help with this sort of thing.

My DOR is 20100701
Also currently in billet mos 8411 (recruiter)
I may have got the dates wrong when I posted originally.. So this is my MOS and zone dor's. Im still confused I guess, I was told last year I was in the below zone by my sncoic, so it would make zero sense to me how I could be in the above zone..

Makes sense now. You are in zone. Once the jr DOR is read then you go to AFADBD to determine who is in zone. Your AFADBD of 20060905 is after 20060214 so you are considered in zone and have zero passes. Be sure to get your picture submitted and good luck!
