"NEVER Apoligize, I'ts a sign of weakness" That phrase always sounded good when John Wayne said it, thought I would give it a try. I have to admit though you are correct. Lets just hope the "Posers" stay out or the Staff of this site catch and weed them out. We've had our share of Posers and trolls on this site. But they invariably trip themselves up and are either ostricized by the true Marines, or are run off the site by the Mods. Sure there is a wealth of info. But it is all basically general in nature, and when pressed for details, the posers stumble.

You know, It dawned on me that many a poser will get their info from here. Asking a poser who their Drill Instructors were is the easiest way to expose them
I don't usually have much trust for someone that puts absolutely nothing, as far as info. about their self. Makes me think they don't really have any to put down.

It amazes me. I get several e-mails from this thread monthly and one post in particular is from the same person posting the same thing over and over again. I only subscribe to this thread in case an old friend posts here. Not to read the repeated info of someone who is obviously suffering from dementia. Hopefully you read this and realize I am refering to you without me having to use a specific name. Posting your info once should suffice.

I am one who does not have their plt number in my profile, I know that some of you don`t understand how anyone could forget their plt number but I did.
I went to PI on 19 may 1954 and got out of boot on 6 aug 1954, my senior DI was sgt Flynn and thats is all I remember. I forgot to add that I was in 2ed bn on 2ed deck of the old wooden barracks.

I've been trying to help a WWII Guadalcanal vet build an shadowbox and history for his grandkids. He too can't remember what platoon in PI he was with. The man has everything else including some pretty bad ass pic's of him but he does remember his Drill Instructors. He remembers he lived in tents. Those old wooden barracks were still in use for 2nd Bltn in '71 and I guess up until '75, that isn't going to help you.

3049 I Co...
Third Herd...Third Battalion..by far the toughest one to make it through due to weekly PT on the confidence course and absent leering eyes of Officer brass and Tops to look out for us recruits.

wouldn't have traded it for any other group.

Jan 1968 Parris Island......3rd Battalion....Disneyland as some have called it however Mickey Mouse wasn't there just a house mouse...Platoon 310 left PI in March 1968 and eventually worked my way to Nam in August of 68 and served with 3rd Tank Battalion 3rd MarDiv until Sept 69 then to Beaufort SC 2nd MAW to finish out my 2 years. I will never regret my time but wish to Hell I would have better note of all the guy's I met in Boot,Nam and elsewhere while in the crotch (Marines). It would be kind of a good feeling to touch base with them.....................all I can remember is faces and not names................That is my biggest regret and sometimes when I think about it ................it is frustrating.............

I remember one Very Hot day in July, it was too hot to drill out on the grinder becuse they put out "Red Flags" as an indicator for D.I.'s, So "Terrible Tylor" marched us down to the quansit huts we used to live in and packed all 65 of us into one hut and closed the windows. He had us stack two foot lockers on top one another and place his chair on the top one. He then climbed up into the chair and called out out repititions as he made us P.T. inside with 125 degree heat as he sat there with a 40 oz. glass of coke over ice and a fan blowing on him. after two hours and six men passing out, We all prayed that the heat never again interupt our drill day's on the grinder.

Senior Drill Instructor Sgt Brown - Dark green, mean as hell, like a rattlesnake...but worse! I think he was an armorer. Guy was angry all the time.
Drill Instructor SSgt Pridget (yes that is right, he got promoted during 3rd phase and our Senior DI took it out on us in spades!) - He was 0300. Tall wirey dark green Marine. Always seemed as smooth as he was tough.
Drill Instructor Sgt Gilmore - Stocky burly light green Marine. Was 0300 and after DI duty was headed to Recon school. I have absolutely no doubt that he made it!

Our series Commander, in boot camp,1st. Lt. Egan. Was a Korean veteran, that came up through the ranks. A few months after I got to Nam ,he was promoted to Captain, and given a rifle co. in the Bn. I was with. In fact he was our brother Fistfu co. commander for a while.

Me, MCRD San Diego. I started out in 1st Bn but got sick and spent a few weeks at the Naval Hospital in town. When I got back to the depot they decided I was weak and lazy and put in PCP (yes, the dreaded pork-chop platoon) which was the best thing they could have done as I was still fairly busted up. Eventually ended up in 2057. Years later, after I mustanged to a Navy "O" I bumped into my old DI. I nearly crapped my drawers when he saluted me! He was a great man and I owe much to him and the others that made me the man I am today. :flag:

Im with Charlie Co. 6th Esb Im a reservist I hate it i wanted active but was told to go to boot camp asap by recruiter then put in a package for active i didnt know anything about there qouta's ect back then for getting numbers but its fine i adapted to it and am making the best of what I have love being a marine. Our Unit was Kilo 3/23 but hqmc said they need another combat engineer unit they picked our unit to change over because we have a navy base 20 min away and they have a lake ect and space for building IRB and MGB bridges so i went to school for Combat Engineer and just graduated Oct 26th like my new mos pretty cool to me When my contract runs out I will look for more opportunitys Such as active duty or AR and continue my carreer for as long as i can im about to order my 8000 series for SGT soon since im picking up CPl jan 1st so I can get it knocked out of the way. As far as other Marine sites its been awhile since i have been on a marine site like this i did have one but forgot it after getting busy and not getting on in awhile but if I come across any Ill be sure to let you know

Yes your right they all help get the job done thats why im making the best of it. And E-4 will definately help i will be the 5th or 6th NCO thats actually trained in the mos in the unit 90% of the Unit has not been trained yet so im making history by being one of the first NCO's of the Unit for the MOS which if I keep my knowledge up and stay hungry can get me to more schools and be seen better I am aiming to go to the 1371 journymans course aka the NCO course this year so I can get those skills to lead the best i can in my new mos and so I can jump start some marines and get there brains going on the new mos and teach em all I know I want my marines to know there knowledge

Anyone on here from Platoon 3084 - graduation date: Nov. 20, 1973?
Senior DI: SSGT. E.A. Smith
DI: GySGT Newell
DI: SSGT Bailey
DI: Sgt Meyer

Yes - I was in that platoon.
It might seem funny to say this about a DI, but SSgt Smith had real class. Incredible attention to detail, sharp as they come, and not to be trifled with. You might not remember, but on our graduation day he was wearing GySgt stripes. I felt really good for him - felt like we all helped him earn that stripe. We took first in the series in drill, and maybe first at the rifle range too, not sure about that one. I remember our guide went unk at the range. Rough break. I remember the other three DI's perfectly. Remember a Pvt named Timmons told Meyer to GTH only a couple weeks into phase 1 - Meyer flipped and screamed git him outa here...think it was the guide and a couple of others that led Timmons away somewhere. He wound up in moto plt to do squat thrusts in the mud pit for a couple of weeks. Think he just got pushed back to a later grad date with a series just behind us. We also had someone cut his wrist one of the first few days we were there - Processing days, before we started our T days. We were all getting into our racks and he walked out to the middle of the squad bay and cut one of his wrists. DI's just laughed at him, told the mouse to go get some of the other DI's so they could laugh at him too. He was standing there making a pool of blood on the floor and said What do I do now sir? The DI (can't remember which one) just laughed loud and said What do you do? You're going to die Private! The DI's knew it wasn't a bad cut, so they were just having fun. That pvt didn't get his wish, he was kept in, just moved back to the series behind us. Saw him a few days later marching in a platoon with a bandage on his wrists. Might have been both wrists, can't remember for sure. Later that night, or the next day, the DI's told us how to do it right. They said take your razor blade and start at the inside of the elbow and run it down to the wrist, opening up the vein lengthwise.....funny guys I swear. Lots more memories.

One of the last platoons through Camp Mathews. Just got back from visiting MCRD and attended a graduation on 7/27/2018 - MEMORIES galore! Lots more decorum to the graduations these days.

I went to Parris Island July 16 1986, I was in 2 battalion Fox Co., my DI's were Sgt. Rivers, Sgt. Green, and Sgt. Hopkins. I lost my platoon book and boot camp photos and I'm not sure about my graduation date, looking for someone can help me out. Would like to get some of stuff I lost, but I know would next to impossible now.
