This site is pretty cool for all the ole timers to riminise. It may take our experiences and skills to take back our Country. I have wrote, called, and voiced my opinion to politicians as well as posted on other sites. We are loosing our freedoms we fought for. I am ready to take action now, because Uncle Sam isn't listening to American's and doing whatever they want. I am sick of it. Time for action! It seems that most American's are curling up into the fetal position and scarred to do anything about the DC bullsh.. If you feel the same, voice your opinion on my personal site, so I know I am not alone. Semper Fi Brothers! dbombard@hotmail.com

OH, and big brother, if you are putting me on a watch list for my internet opinions about your corruption and due to your political agenda's not sending my Marine brothers help in Afghanistan when they asked for it and was dying due to your bullsh.. ROE's, I welcome you to do so. In other words bring it. I am sick of Marines dying and you saying the Afghan Government is corrupt? you need to look in the mirror.

Your profile needs work Marine, Semper Fidelis. He just joined today. Give him time, Sergent. That's why the Marine Corps has Corporals: To keep upper NCOs from beating too hard on the lower ranks.

All in fun, of course!

That being said, I'm sure "scottallenschro" will get right on squaring away his profile the next time he logs in.

Cpl, the next time you choose to correct a senior NCO, how about you spell his rank properly. Its Sergeant* with an *A*

HAHAHAHA Totally Kidding, I was trying to keep a straight face. Oh well now i see why my buddies said I could never be a Drill Instructor cause im a softie. haha.
But seriously its great to be here and getting to know all of my fellow Marines, both present and past. I have great respect and admiration for all of you

Yeah, this is a cool website.

I thought that this particular thread was answered some time ago, but I guess not...I have read each and everyone of the replys and did not find ours.
Before I post though, there is one thing, or several things that enter my mind about some of the posts.
First and foremost, we are all Marines who spent the time in boot camp and it doesn't matter which. It's good though to have braggin' rights on the one of your choice.

There are Marines who try after all the years to get in touch or make contact with some of their boot camp Brothers, and/or those they served with. I can't say what their reasons are for locating others, but it would be most helpful to those Brothers if everyone would complete their profile. I really can't understand why one would not take the time to complete their profile.

With that said:

I would love nothing more than to meet these remarkable men again. Each of them were truley the epitome of excellance and the paragon of what a Marine should be. While I'm sure none of them remember me, there faces and voices will probably always be close by in my memories of my time in MCRD SD.

Its been almost 12 years now and i still remember every day at that place from the time i arrived on the bus, to the yellow foot prints, to receiving, to graduation. I remember the faces, sounds, feelings and emotions i felt, smells in the air, the taste of Chow hall food, and those remarkable men who turned me into a Marine. They(recruiters and friends) told me before i enlisted that it would be an experience that I will never forget...they were right. 12 years and i still remember it like it were yesterday.

I worked for a week in the WM mess...we weren't allowed to look at the recruits. One time a WM Gunny who strongly resembled a toad ambled up to me and accused me of "Eyef/cking her recruits." I denied it of course, but I really was. Most of the ladies looked as frazzled as their hair...

Zeb's Boat House in Santa Ana was a favorite of mine! I loved the crowds there and you couldn't beat the "Rats" that crawled late at night on the floor of the place! Kims Place II was another favorite there! Keno's Restaurant in Tustin was a great place to eat! Mario was the host there, Linda was the hostess. Vivina was hostess for a long time prior to leaving. Tina worked as a waitress there for many years! In the lounge we had Linda S who was the lovely bartender!

T.J., Hollywood, Sunset Boulevard, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Black Beach...beaches everywhere! Did anyone ever go to Zeb's Boathouse in Santa Ana? Little Mexico, Little VietNam, chasing cops in Tustin....did I say that out loud? The "Nut" Room in Tustin, Venice, Deserts and beaches a few minutes away, Orange County Raceway, Skiing a couple hours away....celebrites, movie stars and everyone has an angle! Don't forget KnottsBerry Farm!

Yep. Hollywood sucked alright......

Don't forget Saddleback Inn (where I got my nickname from), a great place for evening entertainment and a place where the Marines would go at night on the weekends. Great bands for a long time until the ownership decided they didn't like Marines and put a piano and other slow entertainment there!

Due to the Vietnam push, I only had 2 weeks of ITR then shipped off to comm school in San Diego. Got a good taste of infantry training prior to going to Vietnam early in 1969 at Camp Pendleton.

Replying to an old Post, you said one of your D.I.'s was Chapman, did he wear glasses and was kinda short, also I think he had been in Recon ? If so he was also my D.I. in 1972. Later after bootcamp ran into him in Quantico he was taking the Staff NCO Academy course. Not a bad guy outside bootcamp.

Sorry, wish I could. I must confess, after five concussions, the only way I can be sure of the previous facts is because I still have my scap books, a few pictures and record books. As it is, I have already been corrected as I was just going through my boot camp records. Apparently I graduted with platoon 3120 NOT 3333. I was only in the 1st and 2nd for a few days each. High school drop out and trouble maker, I almost didn't make it at all.

You were 2nd bn at P.I., When you graduated a plt how long before you would get another plt ? the reason I ask is I graduated Oct30,1968 and I have checked a data base to see if my former D.I.s had another plt after or before mine ? Not one within a year in either direction past or future in either 1st bn 2nd bn or 3rd bn at the island. How were you assigned platoons ? Once you were in 2nd bn you stayed there ? right ? so going to another bn was out of the question ? Moz 69-70 USMC P.S. who were YOUR D.I.s

Viet Nam was still going strong so we were pushing a lot of PLts through. We usually had a new gang before graduateing one... double duty for a week or so. The gradtuating gang was on auto pilot anyway by that time.

I do remember getting 2 weeks off once... we were getting ready to push a DAB (Diffieiency Apptitude Board) platoon. All these guys were dropped from other plts and bns for various reasons... thought to be unfit but we needed bodies. That Plt was a challenge... we had 4 DI's and we were all very experienced.

If you did not see your DI in later Plt's maybe he was relieved for various reasons or went to classroom trainer or even receiving? Not a lot of us completed our tours... I think I was one of 9 that did out of a class of like 70.

Platoon 1083 July-Oct 76. 13 weeks (give or take a day or two). Our platoon got all but two of their "awards", setting two Regimental records in the process. S/Sgt Knox became "Series Gunny" near the end of 2nd phase. Asst.DI was Tai Kwon Do champ of the base. Don't remember his name right now. Stocky dark green Marine. D.I. Sgt McCarthy was a little red-headed grunt. Tough as nails red neck. Co-owned a VW with another DI. DI sgt Pennypacker was transferred over from a sister platoon during third phase. Tried to break us fer whipping his first platoon all thru boot. Finally gave up and walked away laughing that Friday night. Our first jubior DI walked into the gear locker with a 6'5" fat body the first week of 1st phase. Sounded like a tornado for a couple minutes, then got real quiet. DI staggered out, leaned against the door post, and had one of the recruits go get help. Never saw either the fat body or the junior DI again. Never did remember his name.

Been a long time since I've been to PI.

A little story comes to mind so I'll share it with you.

While attnding 1Stsgt School at Pi back in the summer of '76
I was on the second deck overlooking the parade ground.

There was a plt of WM's marching as the DI ( women type)
drilled the recurits.

I look over to my left and saw my fellow class mate smiling
An i said to Bob what the hell are you smiling at ?

He said hell Don they drill better than male Marines do.

I said to Bob you know i was thinking the same thing.

After graduating Bob and i got orders to 8th Marine Div.
Bob was assigned a Rifle Co and I got assigned to H & S Co.

Semper Fi Marine............you look sharp

Thats a great story! Thank you for sharing!

Sure would like to share some stories of what I can remember. I all too well remember Sgt.Francis being relieved of duty and remember the why's and other B.S. that went along with it. I was called in to SSgt.Hunt's hooch to give my account of what happened with the recruit involved. I remember saying "the private didn't see anything, Sir!" like it was yesterday. Please reply to GCJackson1981 so we can catch up. I do remember seeing Sgt.Norwood (the "old man" in the platoon) on some website where he was a D.I back in '84. Looking forward to hearing back from you.

When I was 18 yrs old and Korean War was raging, I went to Parris Island for Marine boot....we learned the hard way by WW2 DIs...if you didn't pick it up the first time, corporal punishment was in vogue and that opened your eyes fast, not to screw up...I was in "M" Co 4th Recruit Training Bn...the last row of WW2 quonset huts on road to the Rifle Range...my Senior DI was SSGT Slater...Jr DIs were Cpl Payson [a real SOB]..I think he hated himself...Cpl King and PFC Guance...none of us ever received a compliment and the day we boarded the buses for our 10 day Boot leave...the DIs were there to bid us "sayonara" with every derogatory slam and racial slur..DIs were hated in those days, but the light went on in our heads being on the Marine MLR months later, that those "hated" DIs saved our asses...they did a great job and killing America's enemies was no problem at all; whatever, I achieved in my lifetime, it all started with joining up with the United States Marine Corps [the greatest adventure of my life]...I love being a United States Marine:marine: :marine:Wow Staff! That was sum Gung-Ho times back then & it seem like that it was just pure Hell too! But to your own admission, it saved your ass. Thank you for paveing the way for me, & for all Marines to be. "NEVER Apoligize, I'ts a sign of weakness" That phrase always sounded good when John Wayne said it, thought I would give it a try. I have to admit though you are correct. Lets just hope the "Posers" stay out or the Staff of this site catch and weed them out.
