I havent done mine yet i am going to MCRD San Diego. I am looking forward to it so much i am so pumped up. it will be hell in the heat of southern california but i will do what ever it takes when ever becuase i will be Semper Fidelis i am one of the future but as i prepare to maybe be in iraq i also thank those guys of the marine infintry and the rest of the USMC but especially the infintry for setting the standards high for infintry which yes is going to be my MOS so thank you present and past for i am one of the future.

From the way you typed the entry above, I would say you need a few classes in spelling, sentence structure, capitalization, and punctuation before you go to boot camp.

Believe me when I tell you this. If you show up at boot camp talking the way you type you are in for a long and miserable 11 weeks.

But I applaud your dedication, it is a scarce comodity in the public lately. It takes courage to stand up for your convictions with organizations like "Code Pink" and "Move on.org" doing all they can to distroy this country, discredit those who serve, and force their warped views down our throats.

- SDI SSGT Joy - We had a mutual hatred for each other.
- DI SGT (later SSGT) O.E. Hunt- One of the best Marines I ever met to this day. He was blown up in Beirut on 23 Oct 1983. Was the only Marine in his part of the building that lived. (I knew he was too tough to die.) He was/is one of my personal heros in a true sense of the word. I last saw him at Lejeune in 1984 where he was recovering from his injuries. I have always wondered how he got along since?
- DI SGT Ratcliff- A youngster that was a little psycho.
- DI SGT Barrett- A "new hat" who arrived about halfway through our cycle. He called us his "little sneaks". He was way too nice to be a DI. Maybe he hardened up later in his DI career?

We might have had a friend who went to boot when we did but different platoon number. One question that I could use answered. Does the Corps use the same Recruit Platoon number more than once?

During my service I also had the pleasure of training alongside the US Marines based out of Camp Lejeune during exercise Purple Star in 1995 and also during a CAX exercise held at 29 Palms California. Staying at Camp Legeune was an awesome experience - Any camp that has a freeway and a beach is alright with me!

I was in Ssgt. Nukem's first platoon as a Drill Instructor. The platoon had got word he was on his first assignment and it was confimed by the first week or so. Everybody made sure to give him extra stress and he was more than glad to return the favor when it was his turn to watch us.I remember him marching a new platoon half way thru my bootcamp experience and he had found his Drill Instructor voice. Before he left our platoon he had a regular yell then he lost his voice. he was an out standing Marine.

I would love nothing more than to meet these remarkable men again. Each of them were truley the epitome of excellance and the paragon of what a Marine should be. While I'm sure none of them remember me, there faces and voices will probably always be close by in my memories of my time in MCRD SD.

Its been almost 12 years now and i still remember every day at that place from the time i arrived on the bus, to the yellow foot prints, to receiving, to graduation. I remember the faces, sounds, feelings and emotions i felt, smells in the air, the taste of Chow hall food, and those remarkable men who turned me into a Marine. They(recruiters and friends) told me before i enlisted that it would be an experience that I will never forget...they were right. 12 years and i still remember it like it were yesterday.
