Hello Marines, my Captain has informed me that he would like me to join in on the OCS Prep at Camp Pendleton from April 5th-7th. I was wondering if anyone one has done this or is going to this?

Short answer: yes.

Answer you were looking for: yes, I've been to one before. What would you like to know?

What is it like? What should I prepare for?

I can't tell you exactly what it's like, because it depends on who is instructing and who planned the weekend. Sometimes trained candidates will instruct the basic subjects with real-deal sergeant instructors from Quantico doing the disciplinarian and drill portion.

If it's anything like the one I went to a few years ago, you will be messed with all night on Friday, will get a few minutes to get a few bites out of an MRE and then write an assignment after lights out (just like the real thing) all in time for a PFT Saturday morning. Saturday would be full of drill, transition training, chow, classes, more transition training, more drill, some more chow, and more "fun" that night. Sunday brought a CFT, a leadership reaction course and more of the same from Saturday.

It's a real eye opener for some, and it will also seal the deal for others. Don't expect to sleep much or well at all, you'll be hungry, and you'll probably wonder why you volunteered a perfectly good weekend to go.

Actually, I have quite a few videos from when I was helping out at a recent function.

Fun and games that you will learn to enjoy:

Forgive my manners Sir, I looked over the videos that you put down, seems like a lot of fun! Ha ha But really I've heard good things about the mini OCS. When you went did you have to provide your own cammies or did they give you a pair?
Thank you Sir

It's not a problem, I wasn't sure how formal it got around here so I didn't say anything.

The specific one I went to, NorCal (Berkeley, San Jose and Sacramento OSOs) had applicants wear jeans and long sleeve shirts as you saw in the videos. Those of us wearing cammies in the videos are/were already Marines, attending as academic instructors and evaluators. I know that the mini OCS with the Orange and Riverside OSO had cammies given to applicants last year.

Everything is so situationally dependent (and you will come to love that factor as well) that it's nearly impossible to give you a 100% answer.
