A 33-year-old man was charged Friday with larceny for allegedly posing as a U.S. Marine to collect money and toys for charity.

Dennis Allen Gentz, 33, pleaded not guilty to larceny by trick at his arraignment Friday before 37th District Judge Joseph Boedecker. A preliminary examination will be held within two weeks.

Gentz was being held in the Macomb County Jail on $500 bond. Gentz, who police said used some of the money he collected for personal goods, will appear in 41A District Court in Shelby Township on Monday for an arraignment on similar charges in Utica.

Utica police said Gentz was carrying a concealed weapon when questioned by police last week at Dave and Buster's on Hall Road, where he was running a raffle and collecting toys for Toys for Tots, a Marine fund-raiser for needy children.

Utica Police Chief Michael Reaves said Gentz bought several guns and a laptop computer with some of the donated money.
