Seems to me, when I was in the Corps (I got out in 1992) that an infantry squad was typically 3 fire teams. I've been looking at field manuals, 3-21.8 specifically, and it says that an infantry squad is only 2 fire teams. I know FM 3-21.8 is an army field manual, but when I look up MCO's for Infantry, they all cite FM 3-21.*

Still 3, at least they were with 1/6 anyway

During my time we averaged 7 men to a squad. We couldn't seem to keep more than that.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! @FaDeD: That is exactly what I remember. It must be like awbrown1462 said, the change was made for the Bradley.
