More than a dozen people, including elementary school children, were shot and killed at a Newtown, Conn., elementary school this morning, federal and state sources tell ABC News.
A shooting involving two gunmen erupted at a Connecticut school this morning, prompting the town of Newtown to lock down all of its schools and draw SWAT teams to the school, authorities said today.

The death toll now stands at 27 with 18 of them kids...

yeah, I just heard 'closer to 30'.
in addition to my prayers for the famalies, I also pray thet the "shooter(s)" were not former US Military personnel....we sure don't need another "EX_______ kills 26 in elementary school" type headline..... we're already on the HS list as "potential" home grown terrorists...
PS...ken..maybe you should consider moving this to the "political" forum, because it is likely to generate quite a bit of "controversy" to say the least...

Ameriken, thanks for posting it, who knows when I would have heard about it. Just got home from driving home from court, 75 miles north of me, had the radio off as usual, so thank you for posting this.
I'm rather sorry that I had to post it. One has to wonder why 40, 50, 60 years ago young people (many of whom may have had guns) never turned them on anyone when they encountered problems in life, and yet today we have so many (especially young people in their teens and 20's) who are so ill-equipped to handle what life dishes out to them that they have to do something like this.
Guns aren't the problem, my opinion is this is the result of a politically correct society that has gone out of their way to protect children from developing their emotional muscles...we (society) are afraid to spank them, afraid to let them play dodge ball, afraid to let them go through a grade again after they failed it, afraid to let them lose a little league ball game. I think many kids are growing up with an emotional atrophy...if we protect them from everything when they are kids, they grow up without having developed an emotional muscle and a sense of responsibility and true self-esteem. Then when they become adults and life starts shoveling **** their way, they have no clue how to handle it and just explode.

We can start another thread, but I intentionally placed it here because I felt it was of interest to both Marines and other members and guests and I didn't want to politicize the deaths of these kids.

latest word is the shooter was 24 yoa, killed his father in Hoboken NJ before coming to Newtown. His mother worked at the school in some capacity, and is also DOA.....
I live a few miles from there. Just was broadcast that his younger brother is now being held for questioning as it was reported earlier that there were 2 shooters.
SO far the news has only said that his mother was found dead, and most if not all of the kids who were shot were his mother's students.
That hasnt been reported yet, other than the shooters body is still in the classroom where he was shooting..

And it is not politicizing it when I add to this that in addition to ill-equipping our children, they are morally bankrupt. They are not taught the difference between right and wrong. They are taught moral relativism and to do whatever seems right in their own eyes. They are overstimulated with violence on television, movies, and video games - to the point that I believe they cannot differentiate the difference between reality and make believe.
We have a generation that has grown up not only morally bankrupt but a generation without God. I do not intend to hijack this thread, but in 1962, the Supreme Court removed God out of the public school, and since that date public education has been in decline at all levels. And we ask why?
No, this is not about guns. It is a reflection of a depraved society. Things that once appalled us now have become commonplace. We have heard so much evil that it doesn't bother us anymore. America is no longer guided by Christian principles. Secular humanism now directs the public affairs of our nation. This philosophy denies God, Christ and the Bible. When we remove God's standards, then man is free to substitute his own standards of morality and we disallow the divinity of Christ and His completed work on the cross. Then there is no longer any need for God and His atoning grace. The moral compass points to what is right in the eyes of each individual without respect to God's standards. And we have the audacity when something like this occurs to ask why?

President Obama expected to speak about shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in #Newtown at 3:15 p.m.
2:35 UPDATE: CNN and ABC have identified the Newtown school shooting suspect is Ryan Lanza. He is in his 20s. Connecticut authorities have not officially released any names.
Local and state police have surrounded a home in Newtown in connection with the gunman.
1:50 UPDATE: Connecticut state police confirmed multiple fatalities in the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown Friday, including children.
"The public is not in danger," state police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance said in a news conference.
Lt. Vance confirmed the gunman is among those dead inside the school. He would not confirm reports that a second gunman was involved.
He said the gunman had a tie to the school, but he did not elaborate.
About 600 students go to Sandy Hook Elementary.
1:30 UPDATE: The Associated Press reports the attacker in the Connecticut school shootings is a 20-year-old man with ties to the school, and one weapon used in the attack was a .223-caliber rifle.

CT State Police just released more details.
18 children killed in the school.
2 school kids died at the hospital.
7 adults died in the school including the shooter and his mother who was a teacher there.
The older brother of the shooter was found dead in his NJ home.
Total 28 ppl dead....

It didn't take long for the anti-gun left to politicize these killings calling for stricter gun laws. Gun laws in Norway prohibit citizens from even owning guns, but that didn't stop that psycho from killing 91 kids on the island of Utoya last year.

The shooter isn't done yet. No, the evil is not finished yet.
Their is so much more to be done, so much more grief
to be handed out. As the parents, brothers, sisters grandparents, aunts, uncles and the very close friends will
be affected. Their will be presents under Christmas trees
going unopened. Their will be families that will not
survive as families anymore, this evil will come between
them, the grief, just to much for them to handle. And for
many it will change them forever. Yes evil has come once
again as a 20 year old with a troubled mind, but that does
not mean that evil wins, out of every tragedy there will be
a ray of light, look toward the light.

I agree wholeheartedly with the above statement but please let us not forget the general news media and their efforts to capitalize on the "feeding frenzy" of this horrible event. They've been overstimulating the populace for years. There is no need to cover each minute detail over and over again.

Absolutely. I find it repulsive that media is sensationalizing this in every facet imaginable to increase ratings, and disgusting that there are politicians who will use the tragedy, the death of children, to politicize their gun control agenda.

As authorities continue to investigate into the Newtown shooting, not surprising, evidence is coming forth that the shooter, Adam Lanza was a satanist.
