This thread is posted to give us an opportunity to reflect, evaluate, and express what we are thankful/grateful for. The idea came to me when I was in the War Room reading a post from Hammer3 expressing what he is thankful for.
To the extent possible, maybe we can keep this thread free from politics, free from the daily banter we frequently enjoy, and free from vulgarity.

When I look at the world chaos, wars and rumors of wars, how easy it is for me to focus on those affairs and take my eyes off my creator, my God, the one who has given me the opportunity to live in the greatest country on earth, to have a wonderful wife going on 32 years, and six beautiful children. At the age of 18 in Marine Corps boot camp, Christ became my savior. That began a new life. Maybe that’s why they call it being born again. Thirty-four years later…I have to say what I am most grateful for is the Lord Jesus Christ who died on the cross that I might have eternal life.

What is the origin of America’s annual Thanksgiving Day?
Pilgrim William Brewster holds a Bible (http://christiananswers.net/dictionary/bible.html) as the Pilgrims pray (http://christiananswers.net/dictionary/prayer.html) for a safe journey as they leave for America from Delft Haven, Holland, on July 22, 1620.
The Pilgrims left Plymouth, England, on September 6, 1620.
Their destination? The New World. Although filled with uncertainty and peril, it offered both civil and religious liberty. For over two months, the 102 passengers braved the harsh elements of a vast storm –tossed sea. Finally, with firm purpose and a reliance on Divine Providence, the cry of “Land” was heard.
Arriving in Massachusetts in late November, the Pilgrims sought a suitable landing place. On December 11, just before disembarking at Plymouth Rock, they signed the “Mayflower Compact”—America’s (http://christiananswers.net/menu-ag1.html) first document of civil government (http://christiananswers.net/dictionary/governments.html) and the first to introduce self-government.
After a prayer (http://christiananswers.net/dictionary/prayer.html) service, the Pilgrims began building hasty shelters. The grateful (http://christiananswers.net/q-eden/edn-g003.html) Pilgrims then declared a three-day feast (http://christiananswers.net/dictionary/feast.html), starting on December 13, 1621, to thank God (http://christiananswers.net/q-eden/thanks-david.html) and to celebrate with their Indian friends. While this was not the first Thanksgiving in America (thanksgiving services were held in Virginia as early as 1607), it was America’s first Thanksgiving Festival.
Pilgrim Edward Winslow described the Pilgrims’ Thanksgiving in these words:
“Our harvest (http://christiananswers.net/dictionary/harvest.html) being gotten in, our Governor sent four men on fowling so that we might, after a special manner, rejoice together after we had gathered the fruit of our labors. In 1789, following a proclamation issued by President George Washington, America celebrated its first Day of Thanksgiving to God (http://christiananswers.net/q-eden/thanks-david.html) under its new constitution. That same year, the Protestant Episcopal Church, of which President Washington was a member, announced that the first Thursday in November would become its regular day for giving thanks, “unless another day be appointed by the civil authorities.” Yet, despite these early national proclamations, official Thanksgiving observances usually occurred only at the State level.
Much of the credit for the adoption of a later ANNUAL national Thanksgiving Day may be attributed to Mrs. Sarah Joseph Hale, the editor of Godey’s Lady’s Book. For thirty years, she promoted the idea of a national Thanksgiving Day, contacting President after President until President Abraham Lincoln (http://christiananswers.net/q-wall/wal-alincoln-tgiving.html) responded in 1863 by setting aside the last Thursday of November as a national Day of Thanksgiving. Over the next seventy-five years, Presidents followed Lincoln’s precedent, annually declaring a national Thanksgiving Day. During the first week of July of that year, the Battle of Gettysburg occurred, resulting in the loss of some 60,000 American lives. I am thankful that the Lord saved me going on 33 years come March, I am thankful that "Truth" always remains truth !
John 14:6 comes to mind, and no matter the things going on in our world ? Jesus/God is in control ! and we are closer to his reign then ever before.

That's true, I did make that request, and continue to do so. For me, I decided if that's how somebody wants to express their thanksgiving, it'll be okay if we don't react and allow the thread to deviate that way.

I am thankfull to God for all he has given me, a loving family, good friends and great brothers and sisters of the Marine Corps past and present.. .. now not having the same ole Thanksgiving this year . Wife and daughter and I are going to Gattlinburg Tn. this year

I'm thankful to the Lord and this country that I have work and the ability to work, and earlier this year have successfully come out of a 2 year fight with a simple malady that almost took it all down. Lots to be thankful for.

One of the reasons why people may not be posting to your thread is the site is messed up. I am a paid member, Marine Friend, but cannot post even in the un-restricted areas. I just tried this thread. I have tried others in the past and just got tired of trying. Mostly I can PM. It is pretty funny.
In any case, I am thankful, everyday, that I live in a country where I have the freedom to say what I want. Where I have the freedom to be what I want. Where I have the freedom to live where I want. I am thankful for those who stand/stood tall and proud and swore to defend this country against all enemies. I am thankful for those who gave me the right to be free. All other good things in my life flow from those freedoms protected by men like you.

I'm thankful I have a fulltime job...just wish I was off tomorrow but that's life in healthcare (somebody has to take care of our patients on holidays). The hospital does provide every employee with a free holiday meal (pressed turkey/gravey, two veggies, cranberry sauce, dinner roll, softdrink, and a slice of pie) which is very appreciated (they don't have to do it). It's actually not bad for cafeteria chow.
This will be my last holiday season at the hospital as I'm getting short! Will retire on May 31st after 15 years service with the state of Tennessee and the University of Tennessee Medical Center here in Knoxville.

Too many people and too many things to name for all the blessings in my life. If I were to depart tomorrow and start then it would take an eternity to say all the things I'm thankful for.
So let me just say Thank you Lord and thank you all for making my life so awesome and adding so much richness to my life and my wonderful family.
May you experience even one tenth of the blessings I have you would be overwhelmed.

This day last year I was sitting fire watch at FOB Nolay in Sangin District, Helmand Province, Afghanistan. So today I am thankful just to be home, alive, and able to enjoy a normal thanksgiving meal with some family.
When I step to the front of line, I will look back and see the reflection of my years on this Earth and thank God for the richness of life he has given me. Whist not all was good -- there were many valleys I thought I would never breach and did. And mountain tops I failed to reach. On this day, Thanksgiving Day, I reach out to you strangers, friends, colleagues and Brothers and wish you the happiest. When you look back, it wasn't a bad journey after all. Peace be with you. And remember, Black Friday is not a holiday!

Thanksgiving is a day to be thankful for all the blessings in our lives. A few things I'm thankful for are--
I'm thankful for my wife and her low standards by marrying me;
I'm thankful that my kids got her looks and not mine;
I'm thankful for my younger brother and sisters;
I'm thankful to be living in the greatest Nation on earth;
I'm thankful for my friends;
I'm thankful for our military and the never-ending sacrifices they make;
I'm thankful for my comrades here who tolerate me;
I'm thankful for my health and that I still have a job;
I'm thankful for my failures that keep me humble...well, somewhat;
I'm thankful for the turkey, stuffing, and gravy I had tonight that almost put me in a food coma;
I'm thankful we have a forgiving God and a loving Savior.
Happy Thanksgiving and a blessed holiday season to all!
