I ride with the Patriot Gaurd honoring veterans, primarily escorts for funerals etc... . I have a vest with a variety of patches. I added one of my Sgt chevrons on the back. I remember that was taboo for active duty MArines. Is there anything wrong with a former Marine displaying that on a vest? I only waer that vest when I'm on a mission with the PGR. Thanks

Looks good! Personally, I would have used the red and yellow chevron like the one you use for your Blues. Technically I don't think it matters if you do or not.

On my vests I wear either the red 1's like on the greens or the 1's like on our blues. Nothing at all wrong with it.

thanks, I guess I still remember all the Active Duty protocal that was drilled into me. In the MD Patriot Gaurd, we hand salute while standing at the casket and that was a change for sure. It seems that it's OK for a veteran to salute, but a civilian with no military background should not. On active duty I'd never salute in civilian clothes.

38 years since boot camp! I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday but school circles are still clear. ;)

Nothing wrong with it at all.. I am the State Commander for the CT Combat Vets M/C Association and my riding vest has my mini medals with my Sgt chevrons on it along with all sorts of Marine patches..
You earned them, wear them with pride.
I was also the Assistant State Captain for the CT PGR and we encouraged former military to wear there "decorated" vests.

Thanks for doing what you do - from all of us.

LOTS of "lines" are being crossed here for one reason or another..

AS for E 5 stripes on your vest/or stripes/chevrons of any rank... "Do what you will / like"
Consider your VEST as a Uniform if you will/do - - - NO PROBLEM
from anyone here..

The HAND Salute you deliver , is probibly considered as you and your group being IN UNIFORM ...

CMC , has said in the past - NEW Marines, OLD Marines, active duty - retired - OR jesusJchrist and the cold wind boys who Are Not in UNIFORM,
will deliver a salute to colors -or National Anthym by standing with their "CIVILIAN Headware REMOVED, and Their Hands held over their hearts.

Everybody else - - - Wasn't or ISN"T a Marine, can do what they damned well please...
