Sgt. Mitchell Votaw committed suicide after a long battle with PTSD and addiction to pain medications. He served during Desert Storm with Battery F, 2/14, 4th Mar Div. He left behind many friends and two beautiful daughters.
He had gone to the VA and received the brush off treatment several times. He sought help with his PTSD by self medicating with alcohol. When that didn't help, he turned to the prescription pain killers.
His is now resting in peace in the National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma. There he lies next to his fellow artillerymen, and can listen to the big guns fire from Fort Sill. May he rest in eternal peace.
