For those of us who were THERE! Not just in Iraq, but in Nasiriya, and on that road that day/night, we will never forgive this young lady who has so brilliantly blamed Marines for not warning them of impending danger. Let me explain...
I was in the arty battalion in RCT 1 sitting outside Nasiriya when we were briefed that it was secured already by the Army. So we could proceed thru and head for the fight at Al Kut. Task Force Tarawa was headed in to secure the town for our movement, and the rest as they say is history. 3 days of fighting and casualties. But we overcame and got it done. What we later found out is the Army went AROUND the town. They had never seen the light of day there.
The highway where these morons got hit was NOT in town but south of the river near nothing. They had passed the Patriot battery road by 200 or so meters. We came upon the scene of their capture in the early hours the next morning. Such an interesting sight. At first we were angry and vengeful. These were Americans. But the Iraqis took no tools, parts, or personal effects. They only took them. Only one, repeat one pile of brass was spotted. None anywhere else. But who am I? NBC knows better.
The Hummer that someone was riding in had a nice, big, boom box mounted, yes mounted into the deck between the seats in front. The Iraqis didn't even take that. All their stuff was scattered all over the place, but even their panties were there. We secured the site and turned it over to Regiment.
The comment the Private made about they "passed the Marines on the side of the road and no one warned them of impending danger" is a pant-load Chet!!!!!!!!!!!! Warn who? We were waiting on the Grandest Army in the world to finish their snail like movement so the real warriors could get through.
SHE IS NO HERO!!!!!!!!!!! No one should be taken hostage, especially a woman. We were hopping mad and eventually our RCT facilitated the rescue with SOF. But, I say again, she is a liar. A jammed weapon?
We were ambushed above Nasiriya during the sandstorm, and thunderstorm with hail, and we were able to make it happen. No jammed rifles. I think the bottom line is the Army, once again, is proving the point. The lack discipline and leadership. Or should I say, they reflect their leader, Bill Clinton, who tried to disembowell the Marines and others for the granola heads. The Army standards reflect the sass mouth, sloppy people they recruit. And she SHOULD return that Star immediately!!!!!!!!!!
Stay Hard Marines,
