Does anyone know what documant governs the DD-214, as in what can and can not go on it, e.g. how long do you actually have to work in a secondary MOS after being awarded it and how long do schools have to be in order to put it on the DD-214?

Not sure if this helps TOP

But here a couple of links with DOD specification codes and statutes.

Maybe when Ladyleatherneck comes aboard, she can help - she was in Admin for awhile.

The 2nd link is a page of verious links to DD-214 and DD-215 info

Thanks, your links got me a little closer, but no cigar:

I need something official that goes over each block in detail. e.g. what is defined as foreign service.

Thanks,

Most MOSs are awarded by attending the appropriate formal school . In those cases where formal
school is either not available or the Marine is unable to attend, an AMOS can be awarded by the commanding
officer when all core skill performance criteria have been met and the Marine holds a billet in the unit for
the AMOS . The MOS is awarded as an additional MOS only, unless approved by CMC.

If it's not in your SRB it can't go on your DD214.

But a little story.....Got my first Collateral Duty Inspector stamp for 6152 in 1979, CH-46 Hydraulics. One of those FAA things.Well, I 'd been working on CH-53's also from the day I was in OJT. Picked up my CDI stamp at the insistence of my NCOIC. SO I had a CDI stamp for CH-53 hydraulics. A few months before I got out, the admin types figgered that wasn't legal, and before it was done gave me the secondary MOS. If I'd been payin' attention, I'd woulda done it sooner and maybe gotten my rocker in spite of the Jed Clampett dancing incident with the Major.......

I have found the answers to my question. For all.... The document that governs the DD-214 is the Seperation and Retirement Manual otherwise known as the Seps Manual.

It has a block by block, blow by blow explaination. It actually adds restrictions to the DOD Instruction.

Just as an example: I have (4) Seconday MOS's. But eventhough they are all listed in 3270 and my SRB, I will only be able to put (1) on my DD-214 because you must not only earn the MOS, but work in the MOS for 1 year after the date of the Seconday MOS (there were times that I was granted a Secondary MOS and transfered before the 1 year anniversary).

Good info.
