CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — The U.S. and Japan might be moving forward with plans to relocate thousands of Marines off of Okinawa, but it will be years before those troops could be stationed on Guam, according to the Navy and the territorial government there.
At a minimum, the U.S. military will take about two years to decide where on Guam to build needed training ranges for the Marines, and construction work would take longer, the Navy’s Joint Guam Program Office said.
Meanwhile, big questions remain on how and when the territory’s sewage treatment facilities will be upgraded to support about 4,700 more servicemembers and a possible increase in military families.
The U.S. and Japan began hashing out a new agreement on the military realignment earlier this month in an attempt to jump start the redeployment of Okinawa Marines to Guam. The effort was held up for years because of Okinawan opposition to building a new Marine Corps air station on the island as a replacement for the Futenma air station.
Now, both countries say they will not wait for a solution before relocating Marine forces to the U.S. territory, which sits about 1,400 miles to the southeast Okinawa.

I agree. I don't think the nips realise how many Millions are spent on Okinawa every month by our military. Retail sales, mama-sons for laundry, taxi's, bars, etc etc. And that don't include electricity, water, and other infrastructure and services needed to operate the bases.

Please, Japan is so damn rich that I don't think it would matter too much in the slightest if the bases on Okinawa were closed. Some big Japanese conglomerate company will just probably come in to the island and give all the Okinawans jobs anyways. From what I've heard, the Okinawans mainly have a problem more with the Marines than they do any other branch sadly. That's what several guys I worked with said who were stationed at Futenma. Plus it's not like the Japanese don't own half of our country already as it is.

Now would be a good time to move to Guam, buy a bar, and as much real-estate as possible. In 10 years you could be setting pretty, sucking up all those jarhead's paychecks supplying hookers, donkey/bannana shows, and selling watered down whisky.

Let the sh*t hit the fan between Japan and China or North Korea, and they'll be yelling "We love Morines", Morines #1; please come back, and like a dumb ass we will.
