OBITUARY: (SAGAMORE, MA) Guerino “Goody” Petronelli, Husband of the late Marian Petronelli, Retired Master Chief U.S. Navy 1941-1969, and world renowned boxing trainer 1969-2012 died unexpectedly of natural causes this week at his home in Sagamore Beach. After retiring from the Navy in 1969, Goody pursued his passion as a boxing trainer full time. Training some of the best fighters New England and the world has ever seen, his first full time protégé Tony Petronelli fought for the World Title, Marvelous Marvin Hagler World Champ, Rockin Robbie Sims World Contender, Steve Collins World Champion, Drake Thazdi, Richie La Montagne World Champion, Kevin McBride. Very seldom did Goody ever have a legal contract with any of his fighers including Marvelous Marvin Hagler, he always said “if they want to train somewhere else let them.” His relationships with his fighters were based on friendship and trust not legal contracts. Goody was survived by his 3 children, son Joe Petronelli and his wife Kate of FL., daughter Carrie Petronelli of Middleboro, and son David Petronelli and his wife Denise of Middleboro. Goody was also survived by 5 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Also the brother of Teo “Nick” Petronelli of Brockton, Guido Petronelli of Hanson, Ronald Petronelli of West Bridgewater, Henry Petronelli of Brockton, Rose Clark of Hyannis, Eleanor Walsh of Bridgewater, Lorraine Santorro of Brockton, and the late Fredrick Petronelli of West Bridgewater, Pat Petronelli of Newton, Netta Derocher of Brockton, and Nilda Comstalk of Brockton. Goody was an inspiration to all who knew him. Live a clean life, work hard at your dream, don’t quit, these statements were the foundation of Goody’s life. “Don’t Quit” Visiting hours will be held on Thurs. Feb. 2nd from 6-8 pm in the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak St. Middleboro. Funeral services will be held on Fri. Feb. 3rd at 10 am in the funeral home.
