About this time a year ago I came upon a recipe for SOS that we used for the installation of officers for my Marine Corps League Detachment. I don't remember which site I got it from and the members would like to have it again this year. It was made from hambuger, also had beef broth and condensed milk among other things. Need it for about 75 people. Just wondering if anyone on here has it.

Had some last night at the Marine Corps Birthday party at the Blue Ribbon Grill in Atlanta. What a crowd!!!
Major Gen. Larry Taylor said it was appropriate to celebrate the birthday in a tavern since Tun Tavern was where it all started.
Another participant was a WWII/Korea Corsair driver who was in Ted Williams' squadron, there were Navy Crosses flashing on several dress blue uniforms, guys with Old Corps utility covers, a color guard and a squid playing the bagpipes.
Civilian customers were a little surprised with the goings-on. Probably did them some good to witness it. Kids loved it.
I loved the SOS (served every year).

This recipe is a Marine wife version of the dish - dressed up and fit to be eaten in the kitchen, not in the field, lol.

1/2 stick butter or margerine
1/4 pound dried chipped beef - torn in pieces
2 tabelsppons finely chopped onion
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 1/2 cups milk
1 cup sour cream

Melt the butter on a skillet over medium heat - add the beef and inions and saute (that is fry to you guys) until the onions are soft.

Add the flour and stir for about a minute, then add the milk a bit at a time - stir while doing this.

Cook until the sauce is smooth - about 5-8 minutes - stir while cooking.

Add the sour cream and mix it through until heated well.

Serve on toasted English muffin halves - about 4 generous servings

Get in touch with any Cook from the 60's-80's..... (they cooked for at least the numbers you are talking - each and every morning when they could set up a mess. The only meal that never - ever got messed up. Always the same - always filling and always good - well - with enough Tabasco, salt & pepper anyway.
Have a great 228th
