Copied from "Memories of World War II" by Reader's Digest.

GETTING READY FOR BATTLE: Hitler and Hirohito had to be stopped. With the horrors of Pearl Harbor fresh in our minds, we rolled up our sleeves and set off across two oceans-determined to put an end to the evil that threatened to swallow up the world.

The Date: The weeks following the bombing of Pearl Harbor and America's Declaration of War.

The Event: America mobilizes for battle.

The Place: Recruitment offices mobbed with men and women eager to do their part...factories gearing up to make the machines and munitions necessary for war.

The Memories: Tearful farewells to the ones we loved...the strange experiences of life in boot camp...pre-dawn forced marches and mess-hall food...meeting people from around the corner and across the country, all anxious to do their part to end the war.
