My wife and I received THE letter from our son at PI last week. He qualed expert on the range with a score of 240. One of his goals is scout/snlper. Can any of you gentlemen offer him through me advice or a heads-up on what to do or expect after graduation to help him reach his goal? Many thanks in advance.

Congrats on your son's accomplishment. There was a kind of similar question posed by Poolie Hall (?) a short time ago. Please check out that thread. To get to it just enter sniper/scout into the seach bracket and follow as you will.

Dear parents of 03 recruit,
It is good to hear that your son has reached such a reward as shooting expert in P.I..
Just tell him to stay motivated and keep a clear mind and bust his but and he will reach his goal as a scout sniper.
Just remember to tell him, That in order to get into the scout sniper's, He must shoot expert on the ranges, when he gets to the fleet.
Again congat's, and may more good things come to your son in his marine corps career.

Well, I think my son (tigger) said it all - however, the support - and I mean continuous support of the parrents is necessary as well.
Be proud of your child - he has made a life choice that many cannot achieve - and he needs to know that you are proud of him for taking the Corps as his life.
And remember, there is nothing as good as being able to say my son is a Marine!

Congratulations on your son's accomplishment! How are his PFT scores? He really needs to do well in everything. Also, make sure he's doing his MCI's. He'll know what they are. It's great he scored well on the range but there are other factors that can give him the edge. He should demonstrate that he is a thinker as well as a shooter.

Many thanks for your responses, gentlemen AND Lady. I will read the other thread and pass all information/advice along to him at PI.
PFT scores are near perfect, MCI's unknown, to me at least. But, I will make him aware of your recommendations. Thanks again.

jnatuzzi,
I don't know if it was mentioned, I may have overlooked it, but sometimes MOS's change because of need. Some MOS's change because someone sees that you may be better doing something else, aptitude and skill-wise.
I wish the best for your son but expect to be surprised every now and then. eg, Son penciled in for a certain MOS indoc. but because son is "out in the field" he misses it. Those kind of things.
My best to all.

Congratulations sir and welcome to you and your family to the Marine Corps family. It is quite an impressive score considering all the challenges a recruit faces at both Parris Island and MCRD San Diego. To be a scout sniper your son must excel at everything that he does in the Corps This is an MOS that requires the utmost discipline. He needs to make it known through his chain of command that it is something that he would like to attempt. It is a tryout. Others have said that being able to shoot is just one portion to the equation. He should have an opportunity to "try-out" and see if he is what they are looking for.. It sounds as if you have raised a fine young man and we are very proud to have all of you in our family. Welcome aboard to all of you and Semper Fi
