After formal training how often will you be able to gain internet access. Once at your permanent duty station are you allowed to have your own laptop and such. And what if your on a fleet. This is not a big deal to me and i'm not really worried about not getting to go online but I was just wondering if you are allowed to get your own laptop and have internet and such. (and no it's not for porn:p)

LOL. Pretty much just like you do now. Plenty of active duty Marines have laptops and computers in their rooms.
When you deploy it's a bit different but in garrison it's just like at home LOL.
At boot camp/MCT/SOI, you can't have anything like that. MOS school, the fleet whatnot you can without a problem, you just have to pay for it all. Most Marines have computers and internet today. Deployment, you can have a laptop with you, you'll want it since there's a good possibility that a lot of your time will consist of sitting around bored doing nothing. Internet depends on where you're at but the larger bases all have it though some small little base out in the middle of nowhere won't at all.

SGT Lep is right bout internet in garrison.
While you are deployed, you will have extremely slow internet, but it's better than nothing. I seriously take sh*ts faster than my sites load. Who knows, by the time you deploy, internet may be a lot better.
Gotta laugh at how things have changed with time....
Stateside in the old days,,, dont think there were enough power outlets to run buffers on field day.
R V N ,,, was another story....you were lucky if you had lights inside the wire...

If you're being stationed overseas it's gonna be a little difficult getting set up at first, but you will be able to get the basic stuff.. cable, internet.. just pay a monthly bill... just split it with yer roommate and yer golden. And don't worry about the porn part... you wouldn't be the first Marine to have that addiction lol :D

Just consider what you put in your room and you are deployed....are you going to store it...take it home.....?
If you can't carry it you may want to consider your limits of fun.
Internet ?
Back in the day portable computers were not even available.

Well back in MY day......wait, nevermind.
Most guys bring laptops with on deployment. Just remember this "don't take anything on deployment you're not afraid to lose." You will find ways to power your gear. I lived out of trucks on random OPs for months and we would power iPods, and such, off 5590 adapters, MRAP outlets, etc. You will find little tricks to make life a little more comfortable for all aspects of life (wet sock in the shade to cool drinks, etc).
There is an emphasis on putting Marines in barracks these days...and there are a lot of new barracks being built. With this, I am guessing you will have wireless internet in them. French Creek has/had ****ty wireless internet that was overpriced. There will be a lot of places where boots hang out at, they'll have stuff like Xbox's, computers with internet, pool tables, etc. And those places are often within walking distance to junior Marine's barracks.

They store your personal belongings for free when you deploy (assuming you live in the barracks, otherwise your BAH covers your storage)

Did not know that...was never offered by my unit to put stuff in storage, I just rented one of the million storage facilities off-base.
Yeah, TMO can take everything for you. Most guys I know didn't do that on my deployment, just got a storage unit with a few other guys and put everything there. I was lucky enough to have a cousin in Santa Barbara, just threw everything in my car and put my car up there.

Some or most barracks will have commercial Internet available for you to subscribe. In 29 Palms, I had DSL and cable available and cable was the better deal, more speed and I got a public IP though several inbound ports were blocked. I know 80 was blocked for sure; I don't remember which others.
When I first got to 29, we only had dial-up. The phone line was $35ish and then another $20 to the ISP. 56k was as good as it got. Some people were slick and had bonded 56k and that was considered kick-butt at the time.
I know at least two or three people who had 3G USB adapters for their laptops so that is another option. It didn't work well in the barracks though. I think the signal doesn't pass through those big bricks or whatever teh buildings are built with.
Base libraries will generally have Internet access available but you may be limited to 30 or 60 minutes depending on time of day and how busy it is. Keep in mind these are public computers so be careful of what you do on them. I once found the scan front and back of someones DL, military ID, SS card, and passport.
You can have a laptop and/or computer in garrison. Heck I had two computers and a laptop in my room. A friend down the hall had a dual-Xeon. At least in my unit, we had a lot of computer gamers that would blow away time with BF, CS, WoW, etc. Some claimed that keeping busy on WoW saved them money over going out.

I believe "and what if your on a fleet" was referring to on ship, in which case the answer is yes...there is internet on ships as well.
