Motor T will see more combat. Then again, the 2 choices you posted are REALLY far from each other.

Well, if you HAVE to pick one of the 2 I'd go Motor T if you want to see combat sooner than later.

Well, good thing that it's possible to conduct a lateral move in the Marines to the job of your choice once you reach the required amount of time in the MOS.

As for the Intel field, this should help: http://www.leatherneck.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22263

Yea I understand I will have a chance to lateral move but I've heard that sometimes you can't and do you have to re enlist to lateral move

You don't have to re-enlist, however, you'll have to extend your contract at a minimum. If you really want to lat move than re-enlisting will be a better bet anyway, that way you'll have a better shot at being accepted to lat move.

Alright good...so you wouldn't recomment intel to see any combat? I thought the 021w mos would and the intel specialist

If you see combat as an Intel Marine, it'll more than likely be some sort of Special Ops assignment or doing Security.

Everyone wants to see the elephant. Sigh.

Simple comparison here:

Do you want to be changing tires and driving trucks, or actually knowing the whys and wherefores of what the mission is?

It's not all 'desk work'. And I'll tell you something straight out, your grammar will need VAST improvement, so begin that NOW.

Read the sticky just above this thread, it will answer most of your questions about what the day to day job entails.

And don't be so quick to 'want' to see 'combat'. I promise, it's not a video game and it's NOT the movies or TV.

Sorry about that, I was on my phone, It's not that I want to see combat, I just dont want to be sitting around when I'm deployed, I wouldnt mind a little, but I want to go out with infantry and stuff...I would have picked infantry but alot of slots are taken right now for my shipdate.

I was Motor T in Vietnam. I got shot at and I got rocketed and mortared.

Because I was assigned to an aviation squadron, I was able to learn more about what was happening around the base than the drivers working out of the main motor pool. If I had some free time during the day (not often), I could sit in on some of the briefings in the pilot's ready room. (Ah! A nice cuppa and some air conditioning.)

My buddies at the pool complained frequently that they "weren't in the know." However, we all compared notes about problems we encountered outside the wire, keeping ourselves informed about hot spots, etc. Our own little intel system.

I can't speak for now, and I've posted this stat before, but in Vietnam I was told that Motor T had the second highest casualty rate after infantry. Seeing as at least half of my MOS instructors had Purple Hearts, I tended to believe that. As IEDs are a major method of attack for the Taliban now, I would think Motor T guys are in every bit as much danger as any grunt.

As Sgt Lep said, don't be so quick to want to see the elephant. Sometimes those memories stay with you for a very looong time. Some are good to remember, most others, not so good.

P.S. Changing truck tires IS a pain-in-the-azz, but part of the job.

Most of the junior intel Marines I saw were locked inside the battalion S-2 SCIF (windowless room where all the classified material was stored/safeguarded). No idea what they did all day but I know you submitted your paperwork to them if you needed a security clearance; they would check it and then send it onto higher headquarters for adjudication. Definitely office/computer/desk work.

There are plenty of opportunities to "see" combat in the intel field. Though I haven't deployed yet myself, there are many mediums in which you'll travel outside the wire. I know your frustration though. I was once sitting where you are now. No one knows sh*t about intel, so they can't help you. My motor-T buddies do tell of scary outside the wire stories, but what you need to concern yourself with is staying in shape, and mentally prepping yourself for boot camp. My advice is intel. But you're going to be laughably bored with both MOS's, regardless.
