Who says there aren’t any real men in Hollywood?
Rob Riggle may best known for playing a funny guy in films like “The Hangover,” “The Other Guys” and “Step Brothers,” but in real life, the actor plays an even more important role: Marie Corps Reservist.
Lt. Col Riggle, as he is more formally known, joined the Marine Corps in college at the University of Kansas and is proud of his service. “One—I earned the title Marine, no one gave it to me. I’ll be proud of that as long as I’m alive,” Riggle said in an interview in Marines Magazine. “Two—Marines are loyal to each other. I like loyalty. Three—Marine Corps history and tradition is something to be proud of, and I’ve been part of that history for the last 19 years. And four—honor, courage and commitment. Those words really do mean something.”

Riggle, who has been stationed in areas as far-flung as Liberia, Kosovo and Afghanistan, says that his service in the Marine Corps has readied him for rigors of Hollywood. “It made me mentally tough, which is what you have to be in show business,” says Riggle. “Show business is brutal. For seven years I worked every day and night to catch a break. I heard ‘no’ at least 5,000 times—literally.”
Riggle prefers the plain talk of the military to the duplicity of Hollywood honchos. “People in show business rarely say what they’re really thinking. Marines usually shoot straight with you.”
