View Full Version : After boot camp?

My girlfriend and I have been dating for awhile now and we are worried that once I'm done with infantry training after boot camp we will no longer be able to see each other for very long periods of time, and it will turn into a long distance relationship. She will be graduating this year and plans on hitting college right out of high school. We both live in ND, quite a far distance from San Diego where I'll be at boot camp and training.

So my question is this, when Marines are done with their initial training where do they get stationed when no being deployed? Are they forced to live on one of the few bases we have along our coast lines? Or can they live off base as far away as North Dakota?

We both have agreed that we can deal with the deployments over seas but if I also have to live 2k miles away from her in between those deployments it will probably be a relationship breaker.

If you're going Active Duty, you will be stationed on one of the Marine Corps Bases, meaning you will not be able to live in North Dakota. You could be on the East Coast, West Coast, or overseas in Okinawa. I'm from the East Coast and am stationed in Hawaii, so you get the idea.

If you're not prepared for a long distance relationship, best of luck to you, because it isn't meant to be.

You may not have posted it on that date, but according to you and your half azz profile you joined this board on that date. Fill out your profile as the forum rules state and maybe you will become believeable.

I joined this forum when I was thinking about joining the Corps, so what? I updated my profile with the most information I felt comfortable releasing, now take the stick out of your azz.

I guess my only choice now is to end the relationship. I do NOT want to deal with a long term relationship. This really sucks, because I really like this girl.

You may want to watch who you're talking to. Have trouble following simple site rules sounds like the Corps will be tons of fun for you...

Don't tell me you REALLY came on our forum and disrespected one of us.

If you would take the time (which you obviously haven't), you would read the site rules and see that a COMPLETED profile is a requirement of being a member. It's not real difficult and the info asked for is just basic stuff.

Being as you are a disrespectful twit who does not follow rules, Sgt Lep will be along eventually (he has another fulltime job) to escort you to the black helos for your extraction. Don't worry, it will be painless and over quickly.

You and your girlfriend have a nice life together...she picked a real winner.

Unbelievable.....response and attitude is unacceptable.

Along with all else that's been imparted to you....the Marine Corps does not care about your relationship with your girlfriend.
You're not ready for the USMC......end of story.

That's my take on it....carry on.

You disrespectful little shvit. That gets you a permanant extraction from here.

Take your attitude to the army or barber college. Either way we don't need YOU. You need US.

Go forth and take your retardation elsewhere. Permabanned.

You may want to get your priorities straight.

"We both have agreed that we can deal with the deployments over seas but if I also have to live 2k miles away from her in between those deployments it will probably be a relationship breaker."

Let me tell you something. If you are in a relationship right now, and your or her concern is being worried about what factors will break it up, get out now! It's not meant to be.

I am serious. If two people are seriously in love, time, distance, events, circumstances, duty stations, whatever matter not.

I went to boot camp when I was 17. I had a girl friend who was 16 and starting her junior year in high school. I actually told her to not sit around waiting because there was no telling what would take place. I also encouraged her to go to school dances even though she did not want to. When I came home on leave, we saw each other, we dated, but never once did I concern myself, nor did she, about "breaking up."

She eventually graduated high school. The following year we were married. Because we did not approach our relationship in the manner that you are describing, when I later went overseas for a year unaccompanied, we were mentally prepared. There was none of this "I can't live without you" garbage. She understood the needs of the Marine Corps, and we had learned to function apart. We've been married for 30+ years now.

If she is giving you ultimatums, I am sorry, but that sounds like handwriting on the wall for failure.
