Hello Marines, I am a wannabee right now, and I am looking to enlist in the Corps *hopefully* with a 0351 MOS. If anyone has experience with this MOS or can offer some insight to how easy/hard it is to get into, that would be great. Also I am not sure if I should start a new thread...but how should I tell my parents that I am planning on enlisting? I already have a sister in the Army, and my Mom was so upset when she left. Not mad, but a bit emotionally upset. Thanks for the advice!

Get it or not. Opinions? Couldn't care. Mommies cry,,,,,,, that's what they do. Things are hard now, you gotta really want it. How do I tell my parents? Gosh, golly, gee dad,,,,, I sorta grew up. Get over.

I'm sorry, but that didnt help me at all... What does 'get it or not' mean?

I agree somewhat but would add the following.

To the OP....the *bold* above is your determining factor.
I'd only guess that parents are rarely supportive so you'll have to get over that when your of age to make this unilateral decision....maybe the most significant in your life.

Talk to your recruiter and good luck on your quest.
EDIT: you may not get the MOS you desire so be aware of that also.

(Sparkie: great 'combat history' comment in your profile...:))

Carry on....

You can only select a general field such as 03XX. Any job in that field is up to a variety of factors such as needs of the Corps, how you measure up in boot etc.

How do you tell your parents? Just simply sit down, get as much info as you can from a recruiter and tell them what you hope to do. Expect some negative reactions but be respectful, tell them you understand their concerns but it's your life.

Sparkie sorry to hear your son is running into problems concerning his enlistment. 22 and they're stonewalling him?

So how do I increase the likely hood of getting that specific MOS? I have a cousin (in-law) that specifically went in wanting to be a combat engineer, and had no trouble reaching that goal

Is he active duty or reserve? Reserves can pick their MOS, active duty is a cr$p shoot

Because it's a more specialized field. You'll get to pick '0300' and they'll decide what your actual MOS will be once you get to MCT. That's about it.

How to tell 'em? "Mom, Dad, I'm enlisting in the Marine Corps. I hope you'll support me as I begin my great adventure. Thanks for everything".

Just that simple.
