There's a chopper squadron aboard CamPen now?

Was in Tustin when I was there; must've shut it down since then.

Yeah Top, Tustin started closing in 95 or so i believe. They still had units there in 97. Not sure who the last ones were, I was a grunt at Camp Pen at the time.

From Wikipedia:

Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 469 (HMLA-469) is a United States Marine Corps (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Marine_Corps) helicopter squadron consisting of AH-1W Cobra (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AH-1_SuperCobra) attack helicopters and UH-1N Huey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UH-1N_Huey) utility (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utility_helicopter) helicopters. The squadron is based at Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marine_Corps_Air_Station_Camp_Pendleton), California (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California) and falls under the command of Marine Aircraft Group 39 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marine_Aircraft_Group_39) (MAG-39) and the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3rd_Marine_Aircraft_Wing) (3rd MAW). The squadron was activated on June 30, 2009.
The stand-up of HMLA-469 is part of the Commandant’s (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commandant_of_the_Marine_Corps) plan to “grow the force” to better meet the demands of the War on Terror (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_on_Terrorism) and the complexities of an evolving global threat.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMLA-469#cite_note-2007_Marine_Air_Plan-0)

[edit (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=HMLA-469&action=edit&section=2)] History

The unit’s nickname comes from the words of former president George W. Bush (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_W._Bush), when he stated that America will seek vengeance on those responsible for the September 11, 2001 attacks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_11,_2001_attacks). Each helicopter in the squadron has the tailcode (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tailcode) SE, for September Eleventh, inscribed on the tail boom to pay tribute to those who lost their lives that day.[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMLA-469#cite_note-1)
On October 29, 2009 a US Coast Guard HC-130 aircraft with seven crewmembers collided with an HMLA-469 AH-1 Cobra (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AH-1_Cobra) helicopter with two crewmembers 15 miles east of San Clemente Island (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Clemente_Island). Both aircraft crashed into the ocean and all nine crewmembers in both aircraft were killed.[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMLA-469#cite_note-2) The C-130 was searching for a missing boater while the USMC aircraft was heading towards a military training area in company with another Cobra and two CH-53E Super Stallions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CH-53E_Super_Stallion) from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marine_Corps_Air_Station_Miramar).[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMLA-469#cite_note-3)
