I know this happened before 9/11 so 99 or 2000. I use to live in N.J.
in the north west of the state. Their was this woman who was a teacher
in town, her class was about the third grade. Her son was a Navy pilot
So she asked her son if he could do a fly over the school and she would
have her class outside at the time he was going to do the fly over.
Ok, by now I think your thinking this is not going to end well, its not.
Her son was an F-14 pilot and a Gulf War Vet. and he may have been your
rank but im not sure. He got permission to fly from Norfork Va. to N.J.
to do the fly over, his mother brought her class outside, she told them
she had a surprise for them. And at the appointed
time her son showed up, at tree top level he came screeming across the
play ground, and did it a couple of times. Now the kids were screeming and
crying they thought the plane was going to crash. So then I guess he thought
hey, this is my home town lets do a little fly over in town, and he did
pictures were falling off peoples walls people were calling the police
about this plane coming over there houses ect. Now I have a friend of mind
who was working at a body shop in town and was on top of a box truck
inspecting some damage, the truck was to big to fit through there overhead
doors so he was outside. When he was telling me about how as he was on top
he had this feeling that something was behind him. as he turned to look the
F-14 came screeming across the tree tops, he went face down on top of the truck and said he could feel the heat from the after burners as it pass over.
Now after all that, what do you think the Navy did to the pilot?? We never
found out.

Bruce just as a guess I'm sure he was brought up on charges, especially if there was any damages to the civilian structure in the town, broken glass, crack ceilings etc. <br />

Bruce Here in my little town of Ephraim, Utah we have had a lot of down low fly overs for as long as I can remember all done by local kids who have made good in the armed forces. One was done by my next door nabor. He was at the time a Maj. in the Air Force Thunder Chiefs. The two best were prop jobs. One was a Navy Corsair and the other was no other than "Dago Red" a P-51 Mustang. Dago Red has been worked over for speed. It is the world record holder for a prop driven air plane.

USNA----I do not think that anybody around my town would have said a bad word about it. To us here that is the sound of freedom.

You're probaly in a small town, lots of room? Well this incident took place in NW NJ, pretty close to Class B civilian air space IE Kennedy,LaGaudia and Newark airports. There is protocal to be followed, especially in heavily populated civilian areas. I'm sure the population wouldn't want it to happen again, especially if it caused any structural damage.

I respect the fact that y'all welcome the fly overs but what was described to me by Bruce was negligence. If he had hit a bird, or got distracted or even sneezed, at tree top level he would have lost it and not only killed himself but perhaps many others

Well guys I do understand, I now live here in Jacksonville N.C. and the
V-22s come in pretty low. Sometimes they cut my lawn for me, but this
is here at a military town.
