I've been having pain in my knee and it only goes away when I wrap it tightly. I'm also going to boot camp in about a month... Any advice?

*It hurts to walk and run so obviously my PT is affected by this..
**It feels like I might have hurt my outer meniscus on my right knee. Any solutions of quick fixes to that?

Desm- Get yourself to a doctor and get it checked out ASAP. Get it taken care of proper. Don't listen to anyone who tells you to cover stuff up or not go to the doctor for risk of being disqualified.

I have a very ugly story that I intend to post on this forum at some point or another. To make a long tale short, my recruiters, like 90% of recruiters out there, pressured me to lie at MEPS and ignore my back problems. My back problems got progressively worse until I knew that they were so bad that I could not make it through Boot Camp. I wish I had gotten it taken care of early on. Because I handled things the way I did, I was disqualified and left home feeling like a useless cripple while my friends shipped off without me. I'm working on rehabilitating my back, but it hurts like hades.

Get that knee taken care of. Don't wreck your body.

100% agree

Common sense will take you a lot further then "muscling it" through whatever troubles you

Does it hurt when you walk downhill or stairs more than it does just walking around?

Does it hurt to put weight on it or is it only when in motion?

I currently have runner's knee so it may just be a matter of RICEing and physical therapy.

I have problems with my knee, too. I don't feel any pain at all, but it just feels disgusting when I run/walk stairs/lift weights. I've been having it since about a week (since I did squats in the...

It was particularly painful to go down stairs and somewhat painful to go up stairs, but that has gone away since I've been wrapping it tightly everyday. I feel a lot of stiffness when I use it and it feels as if the pain will return if I overdo it.

The pain is exactly under the right outer edge of my right kneecap, where the little dimple is when you stretch your leg out.

Do you stretch before and after you work out? dumb question i know but if you dont that would be step one.

I'm going out on a limb and going to say it's runner's knee. Common problem for poolees, I'd see a doc and make sure it doesn't need to be operated on or isn't something worse and then he can refer you to a specialist who will give you some PT you can do at home to correct it.

It's basically caused by imbalance in your leg muscles, one is weaker than the other for some reason due to flat feet or bad running form. It's putting torque on your kneecap and it's grinding against the track it's supposed to slide along as it bends.

To prevent it once you've recovered, definitely stretch like Munky said and use orthotics when you run.

Saw the doc today and he told me it was probably runners knee. Thanks guys, I'll "light duty" it for about a week and hope for the best.

More than a week duder, fight the impulse to work out on it, there are other things you can do.

Also turns out I didn't have runner's knee, something was wrong with my ITB, using a foam roller helps a LOT, just saying. If the pain is the side of your knee cap, it could be something else, apparently runner's knee is felt elsewhere..

Well it's been about a week since I've worked it anyway, so I figure maybe another just to be sure. The pain is almost entirely gone at this point and I'm even able to get on an elliptical and bike with no trouble at all. As much as I despise them, I was forced to do my IST run on an elliptical today... had to crank the resistance wayyy up to even break a sweat. Managed to make it challenging enough to give me a decently accurate time for what I usually do though.

Those machines are such a waste. If you're not injured or incapable of taking the impact of running you shouldn't even waste your time with them. It KILLS me to see people on them at my schools rec who I know could just hit the track, or hell, run outside! I mean if they really wanna see what they can do they should turn that 3 miles on the elliptical into a real run and **** out at one mile (which, if you ask me, is about the equivalent of 3 miles on one of those pieces of trash). It just fools people into thinking they are doing something.

Sorry for the rant. Haha!
