I'm contracted for Intel, and Im glad i got the contract, but Ive always been interested in Flying and Recon. How hard is it to lat move into a different MOS from 02XX?

I think you should concern yourself with making it through recruit training and your MOS school. Intel is one of the more difficult schools to get through and has a LOT of benefits out in the civilian world. My suggestion, don't worry about trying to get out of something that you know nothing about yet.

Thanks. I appreciate your advice, but it's just an arbitrary question. I was wondering if it's harder to get out of Intel because of how much schooling and money goes into your training.

Intel has 2 MOSs that you can get on your first enlistment. 0231 is an Intelligence Specialist and 0261 is a Geographic Intelligence Specialist. There is a huge sticky at the top of this forum about 0231. 0261 MOS School is at Ft. Belvoir in VA and is about 8 months long.
If you are an 0261 your first tour will be with one of the platoons at either 1st Intel Bn. Camp Pendleton; 2nd Intel Bn. Camp Lejeune; or 3rd Intel Bn. At Camp Hansen, Okinawa. There are a few other billets at COCOMs but you must be at least a Sergeant. There are a few other opportunities at the Division or MEF G2, but more than likely they will want somebody with experience because its only a 1 man team. The MOS is pretty small so you might not be able to join Recon or MARSOC, but dont quote me on that. B-billets are pretty scarce too.
There are two other 02 MOSs, 0211 Counter-Intelligence and 0241 Imagery Analyst Specialist. Both of these MOSs you must be a Corporal and up for re-enlistment. Many Marines in the entry level 02 MOSs lat-move into one of these, if they do. I have never heard of anyone in an 02 MOS lat move to anything other than that.

For your direct question of "is it hard to lat move from intel"... yes. Very much so. Your clearance alone costs over 100 grand, not to mention the cost of the schooling. To be honest, the only thing you can really lat move to after graduating from a 02 or 26 schoolhouse is another intel job, or MARSOC.

From the 0200 field you could probably lat move over to the 2600 field outside of that it's not really going to happen. However, within the 2600 field you can really only move around to different 2600 MOS's.

Your only chance at recon will be Radio Recon and that's only if you are a 2600 (but not 2651). You can also volunteer for MARSOC. I know a couple years back they were trying to recruit 2600's pretty heavily, but I'm not sure about now a days.

Just joined this forum, and yes I know fill out my profile... Anyway, I'm an active duty 26xx currently assigned to recruiting duty. Lat-Moving outside of any Intel MOS is really hard right now and even going to MARSOC they'd likely keep you in an Intel Billet. Any 2600 can qualify for Radio Recon (including 2651's, though it's not as common) and MARSOC is still heavily recruiting 2600's especially those coming out of National Agency and/or other SOF related tours...
