Whats up marines! I'm working out my MOS decisions and 0861 really caught my attention. I'm looking for the full field experience with some above average technical duties involved. I scored a 88 on my asvab and am qualified for this MOS already. From what ive read 0861's are attached to the grunts on the front lines and act as force multipliers by calling in for air/naval and artillery support. Is this the case? What exactly would this mos do in a combat situation? Are 0861's deployed to the field often or are they normally stuck up in bunkers with the howitzers? Can I become a member of MARSOC and get jump qualified in this mos? How hard is to get the ANGLICO deployment? Thanks!

That is the case as far as I know. Try running a google search, as well as searching around here, you might have more answers than you think! Good luck!

I tried quite a few goggle searches and have really only found info on the MOS school itself. Any 0861's out there that can shed some light on their MOS?

Not a 61 but one of my best friends was and being a former 0811 I have a little knowledge as to what they do. In the field you'll normally be on the hill calling in fire missions and watching where the rounds are impacting. You could also be attached to the grunts. I don't think I ever saw an FO on the gun line with the howitzers. I can't really answer the combat question though. We never deployed as an artillery battery, we were alwasy tasked with a different mission.

From what my buddy would tell me, its a pretty chill job.

As far as angilico and marsoc, I can't help you there. I know this isn't much, hopefully someone with more info can help you out.

What do you want to know? I was an 0621 RO in an FST for four years. If I don't know the answer I can ask my FO who is still in. I do know when I got out in 07 0861s were highly sought after, promoted fast but were unfortunately stop lossed at an higher rate. It's a good MOS that can take you a lot of places and put you with a lot of different units.
