Debacle ???? (used in a sentence ) Example=
Your Military Alignment is to be correct when the seams of your trouser zipper flap, dress shirt seam and the Edge of Debacle of your web belt are inline ???

Had to toss that somewhere
Have any of you good people ever wondered if POTUS/obamasan and CLUTCH CARGO were seperated at birth ???

I think there is a very Strong Family likeness around their lips when animated.

Commander, Dan, USNAviator, I can't believe you alluded to how I outrank you in age but not in pay grade. I suppose my O-3 time doesn't count, as it does not approach the O-5 paygrade......I was going to say that my USMC grade, E-5, outranks any Navy rank, but would be too cold, even for me :)))))))

I wasn't alluding Capt. merely stating the facts.....:D

BTW I was shocked as well about this, I'm not even sure I understand it's purpose. Nice burn on the E-5 comment

And he even threw in the "sigh" on purpose because he knows it cracks me up when he says that as he closes a thread when folks are out of control and it's like a grandfather watching his grandchildren running wild, then he gets fed up and says time for bed! and sighs, like, why do they plague me so------first time I've ever seen Lep use it to OPEN a thread.
So, Dan, here, we don't have to worry about straying from subject matter at hand, because there is none to begin with.
Finally a subject Dave and Dan can relate to. A subject on nothing. ( just kidding )

Another random thought. Met a shipmate today. I was walking down the sidewalk when I noticed a guy squatting down, coffee cup in one hand, another one with some change next to his feet

One other thing I noticed was that he was wearing a Navy ball cap. Well normally I pass on by but something made me stop. Seems this gentleman and I served on the Kennedy together during my first deployment. He was enlisted, part of the ships crew. I knew he wasn't full of bs because I asked him if he remembered the C.O.'s name. Damn straight he did

We got to talking, he hit some bad times, lost a few jobs. His wife died, well you know the story. He's staying in a shelter now till he gets back on his feet. I gave him what I had on me, offered to stake him to a meal.

We shook hands and then I turned to walk away. About 3 seconds went past when he called to me "Sir" I turned and he snapped off one of the best salutes I've ever seen.

Now I 'm going to lie, that salute brought tears to me eyes

Yes I met a shipmate today. And not only did we serve on the same ship, we serve together in the brotherhood of man

Do you bozzos ever see things?

Sparkie

When I was in advanced flight in Kingsville, I was flying a late night nav problem when I saw "something" It was light in the sky. It went verticle. horizontal, it stopped, it dived. It was pretty frigging amazing. I radioed into ATC asking if they had picked up any "anomalies" on their screens. Nothing. Then they asked if I wished to report a UFO. Negative on my part, that was a career ender. That was rubber room time

The next day in the Austin Statesman American, in bold headlines, two Continental Air pilots reported seeing a UFO. I felt better but I still kept my mouth shut

USNAviator
01-31-11, 09:05 PM
A lot of pilots report UFOs, a lot of state police and highway patrol troopers, a lot of citizens on the street---has to be something to it. Project Blue Book said there was.

Oh I agree Dave. If you study the history of reported sightings, they intially occured soon after the end of WW2 and our detonation of an atomic weapon

But Dave, that brings up a question, if there are more advanced civilizations, how did they get that way? Do they have a God? Do they believe in our God.

Oh wow my head hurts....

Thanks, Dan.....I have made mistakes like all of us, but one of my very worst was the day I disclosed to my Marine buddies from the mid-1960s that 12 years after I got out of the Corps, I became an Air Force JAG, Captain, for three years.
It makes no difference to them, ballbusting-wise, if it was 12 years or 12 minutes.
I have never heard the end of that. LOL

I think that ball should be kept in the air, Zoomie. All seriousness aside, you can up from the bottom my friend, the Corps, GED, college then Law School and the into the AF Jag ( Ok one career slip....lol) You sir are an inspiration to all the young folk who are looking up at nothing

On the edge of an ancient dry lake we view very unusual Indian petroglyphs that resemble aliens, we then explore this mysterious dry lake where recent sightings of UFO's have been observed. After another beautiful drive along the Extraterrestrial Highway we arrive at the famous Little A'le' Inn. This location has been the host of numerous documentaries and movies including "Independence Day." Here you will find a wealth of information and souvenirs on this top-secret area. Captain Chuck Clark, an ex-air force captain, has written a manual on Area 51, which is also available for purchase. After a great Alien Burger at the Little A'le' Inn we journey to the infamous Black Mailbox, a sacred meeting place for UFO enthusiasts. We arrive at the absolute perimeter of Area 51 through a strange and deformed Joshua Tree forest where the guards (The Men In Black) forever stand watch along with detection devices, listening devices and cameras mounted among the cactus. The signs read, "Top Secret Military Facility, Keep Out, Use of Deadly force Authorized" and I'm sure they mean it. You can wave at the heavily armed guards in the 4x4 parked on the desert hillside but they don't wave back. They just wait and watch from behind their darkened windows. It's very spooky. As much as the United States government has denied the existence of this base, we know it is there but no one knows what it is they do there. This is an Extreme Tour to the world's most top secret military facility, the real home of the X files. Full Day Sightseeing Tour / Approximately 8 Hours Las Vegas Hotel pickups approximately 7:00 a.m. Operates on Wednesday only (parties of 4 or more any day.) Combinations paved and gentle off road with limited access to facilities.

Great A@C routine Chuck.

Costello: Same as you! Same as YOU! I throw the ball to who. Whoever it is drops the ball and the guy runs to second. Who picks up the ball and throws it to What. What throws it to I Don't Know. I Don't Know throws it back to Tomorrow, Triple play. Another guy gets up and hits a long fly ball to Because. Why? I don't know! He's on third and I don't give a darn!

Thank you for your opinion on the Korea War memorial in D.C. It's most impressive, especially in the early evening just before sunset, eerie in fact. Then it looks like it slowed down.....

Let us all hold hands and make contact with the living.

And liven things up around here....I mean come now .....it was being discussed about G-strings and big tippers and then last call.....

Where there is hot, there is cold, where there is up, there is down, and where there is neither, there is nothing.

You are not the first to run into this conundrum, as this is how it was phrased by the author of Alice in Wonderland:

"Contrariwise, if it was so, it might be; and if it were so, it would be; but as it isn't, it ain't. That's logic."

Dave did you hear about the guy from Boston who goes and visit Virginia? When he gets to Richmond, the naturally open, caring and generous folks who inhabit that state ask the visitor where's he's from. To which the stoic Bostonian replies.."I'm from Boston,Massachusetts"

The kind and caring Virginian replies, "Welcome to America" ;)

I don't know you'll have to ask Misty about that. But I have a random thought. Chuck in the rare times that you put a hand/hands on your hip/hips, are your fingers pointed forward or backward?

BTW, welcome back Chuck. the purpose of this thread is not to have a purpose. Free form stream of consciousness or unconsciousness whatever works for you

Why oh why did you send me another PhD who can't find the on/off button on any piece of equipment in the lab? Why do I have to hear, ' Theory says you can't do that' when I have been doing exactly that for the past 30 years? Why does he have to be totally against the military and why I have to listen to him drone on about military spending? Did I really do something so wrong in my misspent youth that you give me these trials over and over again?

Lord... I will make a deal with you. If you quit sending me these educated idiots.... I will make an attempt to go to service at least one Sunday a month. I will reduce my drinking to one... perhaps two drinks a night and will even pitch a little extra in the collection plate when I do show up. I promise to no longer play Jimi Hendrix at 75% just to pi$$ off my children. Finally Lord... I promise to no longer unmercifully beat up the idiots who come post their BS on LN and will learn to better tolerate the stupid people you created just to irritate the hell out of me!

In the early 1970s I had a poem published in Leatherneck Magazine entitled "The Nation's Best", under Gyrene Jingles, remember that monthly feature?

** The Nation's Best **

Here they come in perfect line,
All in step, in uniforms fine
They carry their heads above the rest
With pride, for they're the Nation's Best

The drums beat softly as if they were one
People stand tall, every father and son
For they know that there is none to compare
With the U.S. Marines, anyplace, anywhere

Polished gear and shining rifles
Everything cleaned, all down to the trifles
They march with pride, with reason, you see
For they are part of the USMC

If ever you stand, patiently waiting
For a parade, be it sunny or raining
Your time will be well spent,
if, after the rest
You catch a glimpse of the Nation's Best

In all seriousness Dave, that is outstanding.

USNAviator
02-09-11, 08:54 PM
I didn't expect Leatherneck to publish it, but they did. Must not have had many contributions that month in whatever year it was, sometime in the early 1970s or so. I got out in 1967 so I must have been waxing nostalgic when I wrote it. LOL.

Just thought of a Canadian connection of my own---my maternal grandmother was from Halifax, Nova Scotia, never became a U.S. citizen, lived on the East Coast most of here life but born and raised in Halifax

Did my boot in CFB Cornwallis just outside of Halifax... got stuck in Halifax for 2 days... not bad considering at the time it was a all male base... but they locked me in my room....

LOL-----oh yes, facts, I hear about those all day at court... I was really shocked...it's purpose is to bust our b...s, for me asking that a thread be made, knowing Lep wouldn't do it, but because we knew he wouldn't, he did do it. I think it's hilarious---and actually it is sort of a free for all thread for just chatting, like a chat room in a way, but on a thread, exactly like that---so we can use it to shoot the breeze rather than reply to particular topics on threads, where the subject-matter is confined to that topic-----so I like this, it is not like the Biotch Corner in Chesty's Hooch because even that is somewhat restricted in that it is for complaining about specific things that happened to you------It is in essence a "thread chat room".
I knew the E-5 thing was cold, but I just couldn't help myself.......well, maybe I could, but didn't.....

When it comes to Canadians in Virginia, it's a catch and release program. We simply tag them then monitor them until they leave the state. Making sure of course they don't taint the gene pool by getting married to any of us

They put their pedal to the metal when they cross the St. Lawrence, and don't let up on it 'till they cross the Patomac. I think they are not too fond of New Yorkers. I got that impression by listening to them on the CB radio. If they can't swear, they can't talk at all. Maybe they're afraid new York will contaminate their language? Oh well, enough of that. Dave

It happened again. Got on the plane, took my seat, no sooner had I sat down when an announcement. "Ladies and gentleman we are very fortunate to have flying with us that famous Naval Aviator, Dapper Dan O'Shea," Well naturally everyone applauded and a few asked to autograph my new book they had been reading

But then it got worse, the two pilots came back and asked if I would take the controls during the flight. They said it would calm the nerve of many aboard if they knew I was on the job

Dave, these two able pilots were actually Air Force. The way they fawned and gushed over me made me realizes just why you became and AF JAG. Nifty baby blue uniforms, built in lifts in the shoes and a deep and abiding Navy envy. It's OK Dave, feel free to admit it, you'll feel better

Or you could spend serious bucks seeing Ken's newly minted "head" doctor grand daughter

Dan---this thread was about 4 pages back

Continuing on about what we were talking about on the other thread, that old Fed Reserve is now a hotel, yes, but the Fed moved to right across from South Station, on Summer Street, but as you leave South Station side entrance, downtown would be on your LEFT, not straight ahead as if you were exiting out the main entrance on the corner.....the area where the Fed is now, that is where the recruiting offices were...They since moved to 118 Tremont St, near Park Square, then to Winter Place, a street that runs from Washington St, one block, to the Common (Tremont St) where they are still located......the recruiting office you signed up at----when you left South Station did you face the downtown area, or did you face the other side of the street so that the downtown area would be on your LEFT??

LMAO Dave it was 1977 I don't remember but how many Marine recruiting offices were in that area after Nam?. I only mentioned South station is because that's where I got off the train

USNAviator
05-31-11, 05:28 PM
From what I can recall the area was pretty shabby. I just looked on a map and I do recall it was near water but unlike today, I only went a few times, there was no such thing as PTing. You got yourself into shape or suffered the consequences

USNAviator
05-31-11, 05:30 PM
Maybe we should mention what's going on Kemosabe?

USNAviator
05-31-11, 05:39 PM
Yes, on another thread that obviously had nothing to do with the present subject---You and I talked about where we joined the military, we got into this conversation about how we joined at almost or exactly the same location, city and street-----so instead of continuing to talk about it on that thread, we brought it here, this thread being a general grab azz thread for anyone to talk about anything----Sgt Lep created it for us months ago---so we use it as sort of a thread chat room.

It's true. Dave and I joined the service at the same place in Boston. I was in college, signed for the PLC program. Dave enlisted a few years before me. But what strikes me as being so odd, is that after all these years we both end up on LN. I could have joined over Christmas break back in Virginia but I waited till I went back to school

Wasn't that pace pretty shabby? And I took my physical at the Boston Navy Yard. No such thing as MEPS

USNAviator
05-31-11, 05:58 PM
It was shabby, but not these days, there is gentrification and urban renewal still going on and it looks great these days---and no MEPS, as such---- but there was a huge Armed Forces Entrance Examination Station (AFEES), yes, they had acronyms back then, much as I can't stand them being used for every single thing nowadays), that was over in South Boston, across from the Barnes Building, which is on Summer St as you come out of South Station, take a right, go over the bridge, keep on going and there is the Navy Building, the Barnes Bldg, across from that is a huge wharf area where cruise ships dock etc now, and there was the AFEES. Same thing in 1979 when I went into the USAF, same place.

I didn't go to the Navy Yard for anything connected with enlisting in 1963 or the physical in 1979

Dave I remember going to Southie but I thought I went to the Navy yard. Was the Navy yard in Southie? Then if you had a physical in '79 at AFEES then must of had one in '77 and '78, same place

USNAviator
05-31-11, 06:03 PM
Nope, across the city in Charlestown, still part of Boston but a separate neighborhood.....leave South Station, go on Atlantic Avenue, around thru the North End area, and before you get to Boston Garden, take a right over that bridge over a channel that leads to Boston Harbor and you are in Charlestown Navy Yard, home of the USS Constitution even today.

No I didn't go to Charlestown, I would have remembered that. Even the Irish in Southie are afraid of the Irish from Charlestown.....lol

So I went where you did

USNAviator

If it was a huge older building, you might have gone to the AFEES, actually part of a small Army facility.
