Service members, families urged to beware of scam Web site
By Karen Jowers
Times staff writer
Defense officials are warning military members, civilians and retirees about a scam Web site that is suspiciously similar to the Defense Finance and Accounting Service’s myPay site.
The Web site apparently is operated by a company in Korea, and has links that look like official military sites. However, they link directly to advertisements, primarily for loan companies.
“We are ... checking it out,” said Bryan Hubbard, a DFAS spokesman. “Service members should be very cautious and make sure they are at the right site before entering any personal information.”
The correct Internet address for accessing the site is https://mypay.dfas.mil/mypay.asp
Officials at Marine Corps headquarters have blocked the fake site on all its official computers in the Washington, D.C., region, said Col. Joseph Musca, director of the Marine Corps Staff. “We’re also passing the word around to other regions,” he said.
