Now schools and organizations often set up care packages for deployed service members cointaing things like toothbrushes, gum, razors, etc... My question for you Marines is what do service members really want, if not these...?

Porn, lube for weapons that doesn't attract dust and sand, actual food.

Pretty sure we're not allowed to be sent porn, but we put in in the wishlist anyways.

That's the reason why I asked this. I had figured that the majority wanted tobacco and to be honest porn, but the weapons lube is something I hadn't contemplated.

That was sent to us. while in Japan. Watching Japanese T.V. or the Armed Forces Network. One thing we missed was American Commercials. One of the Officers ladies. Sent us a Care Package on VHS tape of American Commercials. Raised our Morale like nobodies business. The most Popular ones were beer and truck AD,s Sounds silly. But it is true.

I sent the usual socks and lip chap, but made sure to include candy and toys.

You can go hog wild in a 99 cent store.

Along with the porn and tobacco, I always liked slim jims and gold fish crackers. Socks are great along with footpowder or spray.

Plain old lard makes the best rifle lubricant. Plus you would have the added benefit of making some extremist Jihadist muslim not make it to paradise.

Lard will work in the short term, but the acid content not good for steel parts. Unless you were joking, then I would suggest KY jelly. Multipurpose.

Actually, that's also another reason why I asked this question. I wanted to see if that was an honest depiction. So batteries, dip, ripped fuel, weapons lube, am I missing anything?

We have all had to share time with the big green wienie. So lube is always an option. And as far as the acid content. clean with hot water and relube with lard. Has always done the trick for me. Of course I remember a time when we got brand new weapons. And an old salty armorer had us use gasoline to get the cosmoline off. Now all the manuals said use Hot water. They even said to use field water heaters to warm the water. In trash cans but the old armorer. Had us use gasoline instead. And lo and behold the cosmoline dropped off like butter. When heat is applied to it. Now one of our Rock privates. Was afraid of getting in trouble. For using an unapproved method. So the armorer had hime use the Approved method. and he was still cleaning when we got done and headed to the barracks.
You can either use the approved method or you can be back at the rack getting ready to go on liberty. Choice is yours.
