Is there any parameter governing using the term "Retired", with regards to "time served" ? I see several instances where people who only served 2,3 or 4 years, use the term "Retired" after their name & rank. Any ideas/input on this ? :confused:

Just my opinion here, but I do not considered anyone retired unless they have put in the full 20 or whatever the cutoff is and have made it a career. Having served 2, 3 or 4 years is not "retired" in my book.

I did not serve the full 20 and therefore do not considered myself retired and I will never claim to be.

They may have been medically retired due to wounds recieved.

Thanks.......both replies appreciated. I agree, that 20 years served was/is the benchmark (as you say in my opinion) and I always understood that, but just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed something. Also understand the idea about being " retired medically". All makes sense, even for an ol' guy like me.

I would assume "TDRL" and "PDRL" would apply.

Only those who served 20+ years should use the parameter "retired;" those who are medically retired for whatever reason, shouldn't use "retired" unless they include "medically."

Agree. Or medically discharged. I don't see it being the same as retired.

I spent 8 1/2 years in . . . I don't represent myself as 'retired'. Just tired. Yes, 19 and 6 or more is 'retired'. Or of course, medically discharged is sometimes considered 'retired'. However,...

Thanks Beck...great minds run alike.....Just Tired ! Although, I am now fully retired from working, so in that respect, I can now say I am "retired", and just enjoying this desert livin' here in Las...
